Responsibilities

Aerospace is currently accepting applications for positions supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in Huntsville Alabama or the El Segundo California area. Opportunities exist for qualified engineers and analysts in support of the Technical Direction Agency (TDA) and the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Capability Assessment (BCA) Team, Targets & Countermeasures, Knowledge Centers, and Mission Assurance. The selected candidate will work with a combined team of government, other FFRDC/UARC, and SETA personnel and will have frequent interaction with contractor, subcontractor, and vendor personnel, as well as the MDA Engineering and Quality functional organizations.

This position is located in Huntsville, Alabama.

 

Key Funtions

  • Provide mechanical engineering support and subject matter expertise to the MDA Program Offices at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.
  • Provide support in the area of dynamic testing including vibration, and shock.
  • Coordinate the assessment of the flexible target vehicles, new entrant, ground based intercept, and any affected subsystems qualification and acceptance tests using analysis, ground, and flight-test data.
  • Provide support in activities related to design, evaluation, and testing of material and structures.
  • Interface with multiple contractors at various stages of the programs, from inception to flight test execution.  This includes the assessment of design and system adherence to MDA “Entrance & Exit criteria,” as applicable to payload and launch vehicle development, system analysis, logistics, production, test and evaluation, requirements compliance traceability,
  • Participate in anomaly and failure review boards to identify failure causes, corrective actions, and risk assessment.
  • Provide timely recommendations to line management and customers by means of technical briefing and reports.
  • Lead teams or serve as a team member, as well as task Aerospace Engineering Technologies Group matrix to resolve technical issues.
  • Support different levels of dynamic testing of various components and structures (pre-test analysis, test readiness reviews, data analysis, model correlation).
  • Review/assess contractor’s finite element models
  • Independently verify structural integrity of heritage & new flight hardware to provide mission assurance assessments.

Qualifications

Requirements 

  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate technical discipline, such as mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.
  • Have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • At least 8 years of increasingly responsible experience in fields related to structural analysis, environments test & dynamic.
  • A high level of initiative and flexibility to lead teams or serve as a team member.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Mil-STD 1540, Mil-STD 810, and SMC-S-016, and their application to missile components’ design guideline & qualification requirements.
  • Some experience in Finite Element Analysis software tools and other computational tools such as Matlab.
  • Ability to resolve dynamics problems and assess adherence to requirements through analysis and tests.
  • Position is located in Huntsville, Alabama.
  • Occasional travel is required.

 

Preferred

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and present technical material to senior DoD and other US Government officials.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and the ability to work effectively with various government personnel within MDA and contractors
  • Experience supporting Failure Review Boards, providing risk assessment and Path Forward Recommendations.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or related technical field.
  • An active Secret clearance is highly desired.
  • Knowledge and experience with at least one of the following components of the BMDS: GMD, THAAD, Aegis BMD, Patriot, or Targets.
  • Experience in technical fields relating to Ballistic Missile Defense Interceptors (such as launch vehicles, propulsion, avionics, guidance, sensors).

Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed environment, tasking matrixed engineers and scientists to complete program tasks.
