Responsibilities

Summary of Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Software Architect/Sr. Software Architect to serve as a technical advisor to the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent program in designing and acquiring next-generation software systems in support of critical mission functions. By leveraging modern technologies and techniques, the Software Architect will support key software transformation initiatives. The Software Architect/Sr. Software Architect will lead and coordinate technical analyses using Aerospace’s industry-leading subject matter expertise, in support of the design, acquisition, and maintenance of missile mission planning and associated processing systems. 

Key Functions:

  • Serving as a technical expert defining and maintaining the architectural frameworks, processes, and standards related to systems and data architecture
  • Evaluating software architectures and designs to ensure functional and performance requirements are satisfied and external impacts are understood
  • Leading and managing major technical studies assessing the impacts of proposed architectural changes on requirements, design, and cost
  • Working with government and contractor system architects to integrate the software architecture into a model based systems engineering solution
  • Resolving architectural issues across a government reference architecture and contractor architectures

In addition to the above, the duties for the Sr. Software Architect may also include: 

  • Analyzing application portfolios, identifying dependencies and common architectural components, and assessing feasibility of transformation initiatives
  • Defining future mission planning and processing capabilities
  • Formulating acquisition strategies and supporting contract solicitation and negotiations
  • Identifying risks and watch items and recommending mitigation strategies
  • Recommending strategies to migrate functions to common infrastructure and services

This position can be filled as a L2 (Project Engineer) or L3 (Sr. Project Engineer). 

Qualifications

Required:

For the Software Architect: 

  • 8 or more years (L2) or 12 or more year (L3) of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience
  • Experience with software systems engineering and agile software development lifecycles
  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized institution
  • Current TS/SCI clearance with SSBI
  • Exceptionally high level of innovation, creativity, and personal initiative
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience authoring technical reports and briefings for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated personal initiative with respect to being self-tasking and raising issues and concerns to customers and management
  • Travel as necessary to support job requirements
  • Ability to occasionally flex work schedule to accommodate deadlines
  • This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above requirements, the Sr. Software Architect will have: 

  • 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience
  • Strong experience with software systems engineering and software development lifecycles 
  • Experience with the design, development, or acquisition of software-intensive systems
  • Strong experience with US Government acquisition and systems engineering processes, including supporting readiness reviews and verification and validation activities
  • Experience working in a program office environment, including interfacing with customer counterparts and serving as a key technical advisor for a system or segment
  • Experience working in a technical oversight role, such as supporting software release planning, quality assurance, deployment, or sustainment

 

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a related engineering or scientific field
  • Demonstrated expertise in system-level design, and experience with web services and service oriented architectures
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, acquisition, and integration processes
  • Knowledge and experience working with mission planning and processing systems
  • Experience with advanced data architectures
  • Knowledge of cloud computing and virtualization technologies
  • Experience with agile-based software development
  • Experience directing matrixed personnel to solve technical problems
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments and completing tasks on short deadlines
  • Experience delivering impartial assessments despite incomplete or imperfect information
