Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Visualization Web Development Undergrad Intern for an internship opportunity. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA. 

The qualified candidate will become part of the Visualization & Immersive Technology Department. The Visualization and Immersive Technologies Department (VITD) develops a wide variety of software tools such as visualization applications using commercial UI frameworks and web platforms to support civil, commercial, and national security space systems. VITD is a cutting edge, agile, and collaborative department that works with organizations seeking solutions for detailed visualization applications such as Orbit Analysis tools, Big Data Visualization, Collaborative Project Management, Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality experiences, and Web 2.0 interactive platforms. VITD is seeking a web developer intern with experience or passion for designing and coding interactive websites, mobile applications, games or environments. Intern should have some initial experience in web programming, such as familiarity with HTML, Javascript, or PHP and have a strong desire to expand their web skillsets in these languages as well as with new visualization frameworks such as D3, Node.JS, Angular, React, or Bootstrap.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Design, implement, and maintain web-based software for a variety of engineering applications, helping engineers solve space and ground system engineering problems using graphics visualization and analysis, graphical user interfaces, virtual & augmented reality, mobile computing, and database interfaces
  • Participate in several software development activities that may include requirements definition, database architecture, user interface design, programming, testing, and customer delivery
  • Assist customers with using engineering and mobile web-apps to conduct analyses or manage research ideas
  • Track and report progress, learn and follow software processes and standards, and manage development schedule
  • Participates with an interdisciplinary team in ongoing research or technical programs with academic collaboration partners.
  • Applies standard techniques and procedures to carry out a series of prescribed scientific and/or engineering tasks.
  • Training and mentorship will be provided.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of one or more years of undergraduate coursework in Computer Science, Informatics, Game Development, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline
  • A strong interest and coursework in software or web development
  • Experience in at least one web language
  • Agility and desire to quickly learn new programming languages
  • Effectively communicate and work successfully in teams
  • Self-motivation and willingness to take initiative
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance
  • US Citizenship required

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • GPA 3.5 or higher
  • Active security clearance
  • Development experience with graphical user interfaces, web applications, databases, or mobile and game platform preferred
  • Experience in or interest in developing for Augmented or Virtual Reality platforms
