Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation’s Thermal Control Department has challenging positions available for engineers interested in the design and analysis of spacecraft thermal control systems. The department comprises the core of the company’s technical talent in thermal engineering. Here, you can apply your expertise across a broad range of space programs. Key Functions

  • Providing program support in the areas of spacecraft thermal control systems for various space vehicles
  • Responsibilities include analysis, simulation, test, and flight operations support relating to spacecraft thermal control systems
  • Developing and evaluating design concepts, modeling, thermal analysis, orbital simulation, integration and system tests to support the design process
  • Assessing system integration of infrared and other sensors with cryogenic cooling systems such as mechanical refrigeration, radiators, expendable coolants, and thermal storage devices
  • Supporting space vehicle program offices to identify and resolve design, acceptance and performance issues relating to hardware comprising thermal subsystems
  • Traveling to government and contractor facilities in support of design reviews, readiness reviews, technical audits, failure investigations, technical interchange meetings, launch support activities, and hardware acceptance reviews
  • Tracking and enhancing thermal technology through conferences, concept development, and technical interaction with leaders in the field. Identifying significant developments that contribute to the success of all space projects
  • Providing timely and technically accurate reports of findings and analyses to the requesting customer

 

This position could be filled as a Member of Technical Staff or an Engineering Specialist.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering program with a strong background in the thermosciences area specializing in heat transfer
  • Graduate-level academic work in heat transfer, thermodynamics, energy system simulation, or two-phase flow
  • Experience working independently and demonstrating technical leadership
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

Preferred

  • Industrial work or internship experience in cryogenics, sensors, heat pipe technology, and spacecraft thermal modeling
  • Familiarity with the ThermalDesktop® computer code
  • A current Secret security clearance

 

 

Required for Engineering Specialist

  • Graduate degree in mechanical or related engineering program with a strong background in the thermosciences area specializing in heat transfer
  • Eight or more years of design experience in thermal control system for space applications and expertise in ThermalDesktop® software
  • Experience working independently and demonstrating technical leadership
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

Preferred for Engineering Specialist

  • Industrial experience in cryogenics, sensors, heat pipe technology, and spacecraft thermal modeling
  • Familiar with the ThermalDesktop® computer code
  • A current SCI security clearance
