Responsibilities

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to lead and manage the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Space Systems Payload Department in support of missile warning acquisition and development activities within the Space Based Sensing Division.  This Department is responsible for technical and programmatic support for OPIR payload development, integration, test and verification activities for Air Force SBIRS GEO-5/6, Next Generation GEO and Next Generation Polar programs.  OPIR payload expertise is also provided for on-orbit anomalies, space modernization activities, and future system development efforts.  Overall responsibilities will include planning, staff management, and technical leadership to ensure success of the current programs and to shape the future for resilient missile warning payloads.  Many of these activities are at the forefront and are foundational for rapid developments that will enable a resilient Space Warfighting Construct.

 

Key Functions:

  • Providing technical leadership of OPIR payload acquisition and development to support Air Force OPIR missions
  • Ensuring a proactive culture and a cooperative environment across a diverse team involving Aerospace, customer, contractor, SE&I, and SETA personnel to enable the rapid delivery of Next Generation systems
  • Providing leadership in the development of timely high-quality technical products that emphasize innovation, technical rigor and accountability
  • Conducting strategic planning to ensure the Department anticipates and is positioned to provide technical leadership for future OPIR payloads
  • Providing proactive communications regularly with management and customer regarding program status
  • Hiring, developing, mentoring and directing of the staff

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with at least 12 years of relevant experience
  • Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships within integrated teams (e.g., customer, contractor, FFRDC, SE&I and SETA)
  • Experience building multi-discipline teams and leading projects to successful conclusion
  • Experience managing an organization or teams
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with experience presenting technical products to senior leadership and customers
  • Experience in InfraRed payload development (e.g., sensor, on-board processing, and/or algorithms)
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

 

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree engineering or science
  • Experience with Air Force OPIR missions and/or payloads
  • Program Office experience
  • Experience in concept development and integrating new technologies
  • Experience utilizing a matrixed engineering organization
