Developmental Planning and Projects (DPP) supports SMC Advanced Development (SMC/AD) and Portfolio Architect (SMC/ZA) in execution of their role as the AFSPC space system and portfolio architect.  Aerospace supports SMC directed implementation of the Space Warfighting Construct (SWC) though portfolio architecting, developmental planning, concept development, tradespace analysis, and technology validation and integration. This position will provide technical and programmatic leadership for architecture development and analysis and interface with senior government personnel on high impact decisions for the future development of the space enterprise.

The Senior Project Leader assume technical authority and team lead. The person in this position is expected to lead and organize the Aerospace teams including program office and ETG personnel.  Responsible for system of system concepts and evaluation with integration to modelling and simulation efforts for evaluation of the architecture in a contested environment. Coordination of large-scale technical efforts across the project and company are required. Key technical duties include:

  • Leading SMC systems architecture definition/implementation and enterprise integration studies
  • Leading Aerospace support to concept explorations and program definition studies for AFSPC missions
  • Technical and programmatic integration of inputs from various mission areas SMEs 
  • Collaboration across SMC, other government agencies, and commercial enterprises
  • Development and employment of tools for system-of-system architecting, resilient systems engineering, cost/effectiveness analysis, and exploitation/integration with commercial capabilities



  • A masters degree in engineering or science 15 plus years of relevant progressive work experience in systems architecture, systems integration and/or systems engineering
  • Broad familiarity with Air Force Space Command, Intelligence Community and Civil and commercial space systems, ground systems, missions, and architectures
  • 8 plus years of progressive experience space acquisitions and system integration
  • High interest, enthusiasm, and motivation in addressing future national space security challenges
  • Willingness to work in high pace proposal preparation-like environment
  • Patience in seeing results of long range government planning activities
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional high performance teams
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate resources required for large-scale studies and analyses
  • Ability to build and/or maintain substantive rapport with Aerospace peers and government customers
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes utilizing objective facts
  • Excellent written communication skills - can organize complex materials and concepts in a manner that is clear and logical
  • Excellent verbal communication skills - clear, concise, persuasive; builds consensus through speaking; polished, professional style
  • Some travel is required
  • Eligible for a Top Secret clearance and SCI access



  • PhD in Engineering
  • An excellent personal technical reputation and a record of personal technical achievement in concept exploration, architecting, or prototyping, demonstration, and program planning
  • Experience with mission architectures and implementations
  • Experience with a broad range of AF missions and architectures
  • Ability to organize and execute high quality, substantive events including technical forums, major studies and executive presentations
  • Technical depth in multiple mission areas including Remote Sensing, Communications and PNT
  • Familiarity with Aerospace Federal Government and Civil/Commercial customers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with high-level customer representatives
  • Experience with mentoring
  • Experience with cost estimation and risk management
