Responsibilities

You will partner with the Government to ensure Mission Success of the Air Force Remote Sensing Systems Directorate (RS) to develop, acquire and deploy SBIRS GEO-5/6 and Next generation OPIR space assets that that will bring increased performance and resilence to the nation's critical OPIR Missile Warning (MW) mission.  As the space vehicle command and data handling (C&DH) subsystem lead, your primary responsibilities will be coordinating the support for the space vehicle C&DH unit and subsystem requirements, design, development, integration and test, and verification. 

 

Key Functions

  • Work with contractor and government teams which includes the AF customers SETA, and SE&I and team with Engineering & Technology Group (ETG) to perform:
    • C&DH digital and analog electronics design trades for NGG and its interface to the primary and auxiliary payloads   
    • Participate in C&DH requirement flow-down, derivation/allocation, and traceability analysis
    • Verify and validate design feasibility and, requirement compliance of all SBIRS GEO-5/6 command and data handle electronics units (On-Board Computer, Uplink and Downlink Unit, Enhanced Remote Interface Unit, Global Nuclear Detector Unit) at both space vehicle level and unit level
    • Participate in engineering and design review, manufacturing review, test readiness review, test exit review, material review board, failure review board, and other technical and status reviews
    • C&DH units, subsystem and spacecraft test monitoring and data reviews
  • Build partnerships and coordinate expert support with the Engineering and Technology Group
  • Support Government decision making process by suppling sound and coordinated technical information
  • Monitor, assess and report progress on GEO-5/6 C&DH unit development and test status
  • Monitor, assess and report progress Next Generation C&DH development status
  • Support cost, schedule and technical risk assessments

 

Qualifications

Required Level 2: Project Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, mathematics or related technical field
  • 8 or more years of experience that includes aerospace industry experience, preferably in space systems
  • Experience with command and data handling subsytems, or analog and digital electronics development
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers, contractors, other FFRDC and SETA personnel
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak and present technical status materials to leadership and customers
  • Active Secret security clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI
  • Some travel is required

 

Required Level 3: Project Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, mathematics or related technical field
  • 12 or more years of experience that includes aerospace industry experience, preferably in space systems
  • Experience with command and data handling subsytems, or analog and digital electronics development
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers, contractors, other FFRDC and SETA personnel
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak and present technical status materials to leadership and customers
  • Active Secret security clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI
  • Some travel is required

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors and Advanced degree in electrical engineering is preferred
  • Familiarity with spacecraft command and data handling subsystem development
  • Experience in coordinating projects and conducting risk management in a rapid aquisition environment
  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance
