We are seeking a Senior Network Systems Engineer specializing in the areas of Space and Ground network architecture definition, network requirements analysis & development, networking modeling and simulation, network performance analysis, and mission management system development. NSD supports the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and other US Government, and Civil/Commercial customers in the design, analysis, modeling, simulation, and anomaly resolution of space and ground communication networks.  You will play a vital role in leading technical teams and providing subject technical expertise in the areas of Communication and Network systems to ensure mission objectives are achieved. 


Key Functions

  • Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the development and analysis of Space and Ground network architectures and requirements
  • Lead in various network systems engineering tasks and projects through network systems architecture definition, development, analysis, modeling & simulation, and prototype development/validation
  • Lead in the development of innovative concepts and algorithms in supporting areas of network/mission management systems, network routing, network mobility, network performance/reliability analysis, traffic modeling, software-defined networking, network protocols, network resiliency, and network security
  • Develop tools and models that support network system design and analysis activities
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with new and existing customers
  • Provide independent technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to less experienced staff
  • Coordinate tasks and participate in technical meetings for SMC, NRO, and Civil & Commercial customers working closely with members of a diverse team comprising military officers and Government civilians, prime contractors, SE&I contractors and other FFRDCs
  • Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers
  • Lead specialized technical studies and internal research and development (R&D) projects to develop the next generation of Space and Ground network concepts, architectures, and technologies
  • Support sustainment and development of core network simulation, emulation, and modeling capabilities



  • Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in network systems design, development, configuration, integration, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Strong technical background in Satellite and Ground network systems, network protocols, network security, and network management
  • Experience in developing, leading, and working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Leadership experience in developing complex Space and Ground network architectures and requirements
  • In-depth understanding of emerging communication and network technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills, effective communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments
  • Ability to present results effectively in briefings and technical reports
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.



  • Advanced technical degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in network systems design, development, configuration, integration, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with military and commercial satellite communication systems and network engineering
  • Experience with network security countermeasures, including firewalls, access control lists, intrusion detection, and encryption devices
  • Experience with using IP routing protocols, including TCP/IP, IPsec, and IPv4/6
  • Experience in Python, Matlab, and C/C++
  • Modeling and simulation experience in STK, SOAP, SignalPro, and/or OPNET preferred
  • Experience with network and mission management systems
  • Experience with transition from ATM to IP networks
  • Project development experience and demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Active DoD SECRET clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government
