Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for leading the design, development, delivery, and assessment of training products and processes for Aerospace workforce, customers, and other stakeholders.  Collaborates with customers and stakeholders to plan training strategies and investments, and manages personnel and budget commitments for assigned curricula.  Conducts assessments and prioritizations, and develops training objectives and strategies to meet workforce needs, organizational requirements, new business objectives, and corporate strategic priorities.  Leads and directs instructors, SMEs, customers, service providers, independent developers, and external resources.  Exploits all possible techniques and technologies to optimize efficiency, effectiveness, and value while achieving all learning objectives. 

 

Reports to the Systems Director, Technical Training and Development, Aerospace University (AU), and is accountable for ensuring highest quality training to all students.  This position will lead assigned technical and space system acquisition curricula, corporate strategic initiatives, and will apply eLearning, hybrid, and other new L&D techniques across all curricula in the AU portfolio.  Position is full-time, and may be located in El Segundo or Chantilly.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Design and develop training for Aerospace workforce and customers
  • Lead and collaborate on the execution of training initiatives
  • Perform technical, quality, budgetary, and logistical evaluation of training alternatives, including evaluation of internal, outsourced, and COTS training products and services to meet AU training objectives and strategic plans
  • Develop plans, metrics, and schedules for AU training initiatives
  • Investigate opportunities to exploit new training technology solutions and products, social media, and other tools to achieve learning objectives
  • Identify and develop opportunities to improve, refine, and grow AU training curricula, and support the formation of strategic plans and roadmaps
  • Collaborate heavily across AU and the corporation to execute training initiatives, assess training needs, and communicate AU objectives and strategic plans to technical, executive, business development, and support organizations
  • Ensure that training deliveries are consistent with the quality and expectations of AU, and of internal and external stakeholders and customers
  • Perform needs assessments and analysis of alternatives for implementing training initiatives
  • Document training plans, metrics, schedules, instructional materials, and formal publications

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree
  • Extensive knowledge of L&D products, best practices, teaching theory, and corporate L&D processes
  • 10 years relevant experience in design, development, and deployment of L&D programs and products
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and delivering technical training to a geographically distributed workforce
  • Experience with e-Learning, distance learning, hybrid, and other asynchronous training
  • Familiarity with curriculum design, evaluation, and evolution
  • Experience with current training techniques, products, IT solutions, and an understanding of operational constraints relevant to training programs
  • Experience evaluating various training products and vendor agreements
  • Experience colaborating with vendors for L&D programs
  • Experience with curriculum structure/development
  • Demonstrated capability to work well in cross-organizational teams
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, writing, and speaking communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership including team building and mentoring
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis, as necessary
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a top secret/SCI security clearance
  • Proficiency in basic accounting and business processes

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with space technology and related technical disciplines
  • Experience with and knowledge of the aerospace industry
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems
  • Experience in a corporate support or service role
  • Experience with corporate strategic initiatives involving L&D elements
  • Experience as a workforce training instructor
  • Experience with vendor management
  • Experience with make/buy analysis
  • A current SCI/SSBI

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer to complete assignments.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office or classroom environment.
