Responsibilities

Summary of Responsibilities
As the payload lead for the GEOINT Innovations Office’s Advanced Programs Department, you will take a key role in the oversight of the late-stage development, integration, and test of an innovative high-value spaceflight payload.  The responsibilities for this position include identifying and prioritizing technical tasks for the company’s engineering reach back matrix, leading multi-disciplinary analysis and hardware teams, interfacing directly with contractor and customer personnel, and evaluating integration and test processes, procedures, and outcomes.  This position represents the unique career opportunity to oversee the acquisition, integration, test, and early operations of an entire spaceflight payload segment.


Key Functions

  • Participate in and lead team efforts to evaluate contractor plans and procedures to build, integrate, and test spaceflight hardware from the component to the payload segment levels;
  • Independently model and assess the performance of as-built hardware and compare to customer requirements and as-designed performance;
  • Coordinate and optimize reach back support from Aerospace Engineering Matrix and Aerospace lab resources to operate and test prototype hardware relevant to the program, and plan and optimize Aerospace Engineering Matrix support to ensure appropriate tasking, progress, and results;
  • Oversee the hardware build and test process and support testing for qualification, acceptance and requirements verification;
  • Develop, communicate, and represent key technical positions on key customer and program-related issues to senior levels of customer and Aerospace leadership and provide recurring reporting and other required documentation;
  • Excel in a fast-paced environment with a small program office team;
  • Demonstrate high levels of self-motivation to search for, identify, and prioritize technical issues and develop related solutions;
  • Participate in engagement activities with customer staff, the user community, and with other Aerospace offices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in engineering, the physical sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution;
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams in spaceflight hardware evaluation and development;
  • Broad experience in spaceflight component- and element-level fields such as optics, electronics, structures, photonics, and thermal;
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer interface skills as well as ability to lead Aerospace, government, and SETA personnel;
  • Ability to flex communication styles to accommodate diverse customer needs;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with quickly changing priorities;
  • Ability to support moderate travel;
  • Current TS/SCI clearance with SSBI.
  • This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in engineering, the physical sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution
  • 12 or more years of progressively more responsible experience;
  • Previous experience in a direct support role to a space system acquisition office;
  • Previous experience in the integration and test of space systems at the component to payload levels; 
  • Working knowledge of Aerospace Engineering Matrix personnel and departments capable of supporting acquisition, integration, and test efforts;  
  • Ability to plan and oversee reach back technical support from engineering matrix and laboratory personnel;
  • Previous experience directing and managing Aerospace Engineering Matrix technical efforts.
