Summary of Responsibilities

As the Communications Architecture Lead for Communications Programs, you will lead bicoastal efforts to define the next generation of communication architectures, capabilities and requirements.  The Communications Architecture Lead will support a newly established government division to define and execute an Evaluation of Alternatives for the communications systems enterprise.  Responsibilities will include establishing a strong rapport with the government lead located in Chantilly, Virginia as well as working collaboratively with a team of government, SETA, and Aerospace located on both east and west coasts.  The Communications Architecture Lead will specifically lead and perform trade studies, analyses, and simulations to define and optimize the communications performance of alternative satellite and ground based systems with specific attention (but not limited to) resiliency.  Responsibilities will also include leading a bicoastal multidisciplinary Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization staff in defining the architectures to ensure cutting edge, state of the art high performance communications.  This position provides the unique career opportunity for a visionary and experienced leader to leverage bicoastal Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization teams in providing high value support to a critical National MSA in defining its next generation.

Key Functions

  • Lead and participate in evaluation of alternatives for communications architectures
  • Establish strong rapport with government, Aerospace and SETA teams, demonstrating high value-added in a collaborative environment
  • Lead a bicoastal multidisciplinary Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization team in defining and assessing alternative space and ground communications architectures to ensure cutting edge, high performance communications that also leverage a significant heritage of success for Programs of Record 
  • Perform trade studies for communications architectures that include a broad set of fundamental trades including access schemes, topographies, resiliency, latency, and ground terminal specifications  
  • Leverage communication analysis and simulation tools developed on east and west coasts
  • Work with west coast management to identify, integrate, and coordinate Aerospace resources, staff, and Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization to execute evaluation of alternative architectures
  • Present technical briefings to management and customers
  • Travel to customer facilities in Chantilly, Virginia


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, the physical sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • 12 or more years of progressively more responsible engineering experience.
  • Communications architecting experience including communications systems modeling and simulation, performance assessment and concept development
  • Demonstrated ability to architect, design, analyze and specify satellite and ground communication architectures and define corresponding capabilities 
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer interface skills in a fast-paced, dynamic, multi-tasked environment
  • Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel 
  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with SSBI
  • This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in engineering, the physical sciences or a related filed from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize architectures based on analysis, system design, coding, modulation, network, spectrum utilization, and other parameters
  • Demonstrated leadership of Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization teams in executing requisite analysis for communication systems architecture development
  • Experience in a communications space system acquisition program office that includes significant technical leadership of Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization
  • Experience with satellite and ground communications system resiliency
  • Broad exposure to NRO and SMC communications systems
  • Broad exposure to intelligence systems and their capabilities
  • Experience as a team builder with expertise in leveraging great talent
  • Experience in thinking strategically, but also supporting tactical execution in a dynamic environment
