Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Financial Reporting department.  In the Senior Accountant role, you will act as a lead individual contributor and will focus on participating in the preparation of internal and external financial reports including the incurred cost submission, benefit plan financial statements and 5500 reports, and financial reporting packages.  Leads assigned year-end accounting close activities, and actively participates in the financial statements and footnote preparation.   As a valued member of the department, you’ll be continually looking for ways to perform in the most efficient way your reporting while maintaining accuracy.  We are looking for a team player who likes to go the extra mile during busy reporting season. 

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares certain Incurred Cost Submission schedules.
  • Leads and prepares certain benefit plan audited financial statements and 5500 reports.
  • Leads and prepares of certain corporate financial statement footnote schedules.
  • Researches accounting issues and disclosure requirements.
  • Manages the monthly general ledger account reconciliation process for the Finance and Accounting Directorate.  Ensures account reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.  Applies advanced accounting concepts when reviewing account reconciliations for proper completion, compliance with accounting policy, and follows up with staff accountants as needed.
  • Applies advanced accounting principles in the review of purchase requisitions for proper accounting classifications, including cost element assignment and capital or overhead determination.  Expertise in managing multiple customer expectations and creating successful working partnerships with internal customers to obtain additional information as needed.
  • Researches complex accounting issues and recommends a course of action, consistent with generally accepted accounting principles and company policy.
  • Subject matter expert in managing and setting up account master data including general ledger accounts, customer accounts, and cost accounting objects.
  • Reviews property tax schedules.
  • Leads and prepares various benefit plan insurance payments and related reports.
  • Identifies processes for continuous improvement.  Coordinates department updates to desk procedures. 
  • Guides completion of department projects as needed.
  • Interfaces with all level of management, internal and external auditors

Qualifications

Required

  • Fifteen or more years of  experience in Accounting, Finance or related field, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; or thirteen or more years of progressive experience in Accounting, Finance or related field, with an MBA or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, People Soft, Workday) and MS Excel
  • Understanding of diverse accounting subject matter and reporting requirements
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • This role may require a secret clearance which is issued by the US Government, a US Citizenship is required. 

 

Preferred

  • CPA with public accounting experience or MBA 
  • Demonstrated accounting ability in such areas as performing month-end close activities, preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and audit schedules
  • Experience preparing Incurred Cost Submission
  • Experience preparing benefit plan financial statements
  • Experience with tax reporting in a Corporate environment
  • Knowledge of government contracting regulations (FAR, CAS) and overhead rates
  • Experience writing accounting desk procedures
  • Experience with SAP
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a keen understanding of deadlines
