Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking for a Modeling and Analysis Systems Engineering Specialist to be a part of the Systems Performance, Estimation and Algorithms Department. This position is located in El Segundo, CA.

 

The Systems Performance, Estimation and Algorithms Department (SPEAD) performs algorithm development and evaluation as well as concept development, systems engineering and architecture analysis support for national security space customers.  The selected candidate will provide analytical support, systems engineering and architecting, and modeling and simulation support for government customers for Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems for missile warning/missile defense (MW/MD) missions. 
 

Key Functions

  • Provide technical expertise and project leadership in the modeling and analysis of OPIR sensors and systems
  • Be the lead engineer responsible for running the Synthetic Scene Generation Model (SSGM)
  • Analyze the detection performance of OPIR systems in the presence of background clutter
  • Become a subject matter expert in the physics and phenomenology underlying current and previous versions of SSGM
  • Maintain a library of SSGM runs including location, conditions, and relevant spatial extent and time
  • Provide independent assessments and lead studies with teams of analysts derived from the most capable government/Federally Funded Research & Development Center/Systems Engineering Technical Assistance/contractor sources

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or other related technical disciplines
  • Eight 8 years of applicable experience
  • Eligibility to obtain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance 
  • Basic understanding of electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors, statistics, and signal processing
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Fortran, Python, Matlab,  C++ or Java
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, analysis, and algorithm development
  • Good interpersonal communication and briefing skills along with the ability to work independently and interact effectively with high-level government, Aerospace, and contractor personnel
  • Demonstrated technical leadership ability

 

Preferred 

  • Advanced technical degree
  • Current TS/SCI clearance
  • Proficiency running SSGM
  • Strong background in statistics, estimation theory, and signal processing (especially as applied to target detection)
  • Deep understanding of infrared phenomenology and background noise/clutter, including solar radiation scatter from clouds and earth surface,  atmospheric radiation, earthshine, etc
  • Broad working knowledge of current and planned OPIR/MW/MD sensor architectures
