Responsibilities

Join The Aerospace Corporation to conduct fundamental and applied space science research to solve hard problems in effects of the space environment on space system design and operation. We are looking for a creative and motivated researcher to conduct testing of electronic parts for radiation effects such as total radiation dose and single event effects and to inform our customers of mission-appropriate solutions. If you join our team you will be in a unique position to work with our nation's space systems and to provide new insights into the role of space environment interactions and to ways to apply the required space weather expertise in satellite design and operations. Our group develops scientific and application results through flight experimentation, data analysis, and modeling. We report our results with direct interactions with customers, participation in scientific conferences, and through peer-reviewed publications.

 

Key Functions

  • Conduct testing of microelectronic parts at particle accelerator facilities for single-event effects, total dose, and other effects
  • Design and construct parts testing hardware and deliver test results in written reports and briefings 
  • Support programs in the areas of radiation and space environmental hazards to include hazard assessment, testing methodology, and the latest results in civil, commercial, and academic communities
  • Conduct research on radiation effects in microelectronics and deliver results in conferences and peer-reviewed publications
  • Design advanced radiation monitors and instrumentation for laboratory and spaceflight applications

 

This position could be filled as a Member of Technical Staff or a Senior Member of Technical Staff.

Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, physics, space science or related field
  • Experience in conducting radiation testing of microelectronics and/or related research, including peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. 
  • Experience conveying technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required

 

Preferred

  • Ph. D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Space Science, or closely related field. 
  • Experience with design, building and testing of space science instrumentation
  • Experience working with space system contractors and/or program offices

 

Required for Senior Member of Technical Staff

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, physics, space science or related field with at least 3 years of experience
  • Experience in conducting radiation testing of microelectronics and/or related research, including peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. 
  • Experience conveying technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required

 

Preferred for Senior Member of Technical Staff

  • Ph. D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Space Science, or closely related field.
