Responsibilities

In this role as a microwave engineer, you will participate in the development, analysis and evaluation of advanced space and ground-based microwave and millimeter-wave payload systems.  Your hardware development, test, and analysis efforts will impact high-technology RF areas such as GaN power devices and amplifiers, advanced measurement techniques, wideband microwave systems, cubesat advanced technologies, wideband microwave systems, and high-power RF.  There will be opportunities to eventually lead projects in these areas.

 

Key Functions

  • Develop MMIC designs in support of GaN device capability and reliability studies
  • Develop microwave measurement techniques 
  • Develop advanced cubesat payloads, amplifiers, transmitters and receivers and perform microwave hardware-based laboratory measurements required to evaluate performance
  • Perform budget, circuit and full-wave simulations of microwave components, and systems 
  • Work as an individual or as a team member on analytical and experimental studies to solve microwave hardware anomalies
  • Document work products in briefings and/or technical reports to customers and colleagues 
  • Interface with Aerospace internal and external customers, and external contractors for the exchange of technical information
  • Candidate will work on a diverse set of projects. It is very important to be hands-on, willing to learn and be comfortable in working in an environment with engineers of diverse backgrounds and expertise
  • High motivation with proficiency to learn and carry out tasks with guidance/leadership of experienced staff

Qualifications

Required

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or another related discipline from an accredited university
  • At least 5 years of experience  with an emphasis on microwave and/or millimeter-wave hardware, measurements, and analysis/simulation
  • Experience in ADS or Microwave Office, HFSS or CST, MATLAB, RF circuit layout, and instrument control
  • Experience base in microwave hardware, measurement technology, and analysis         
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance with SCI / SSBI access which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with small teams
  • Complete assigned tasking with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to build RF hardware or systems

 

Preferred

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with MMIC design and RF circuit layout principles
  • Experience with RF systems performance budgets 
  • Some experience with FPGAs/mixed-signals
  • Some experience with optical systems
