Responsibilities

The Aerospace Developmental Planning and Projects (DPP) organization supports the Space and Missile Systems Center’s (SMC) Advanced Systems and Development Directorate (SMC/AD) and the Development Corps Program Executive Officer, in the development and execution of space prototypes. This position will provide technical, cybersecurity, and systems engineering expertise for architecture /requirement development, analyze trade space, interface daily with government and prime contractor personnel, and provide trusted counsel on decisions that impact the future development of the space enterprise.

 

Key Functions

The Project Leader serves as integration leader and/or coordinator of a team of technical contributors to include program office and Aerospace ETG personnel across multiple disciplines. Responsible for system of system concepts and leveraging Aerospace SME's for evaluation of space systems architecture in a contested environment.

Key technical duties include:

  • Engineering and technical lead for the Air Force’s Hosted Payload Interface Unit (HPIU) program
  • Provide integration and systems engineering expertise between HPIU and payload(s)
  • Ability to analyze, integrate and champion multidiscipline feedback from numerous ETG offices into a cohesive recommendation for the HPIU program manager
  • Initiate and maintain collaboration across SMC directorates, other government agencies, commercial hosts (domestic and international), and defense industrial base contractors
  • Executing contract deliverable reviews and preparing team for major design reviews
  • Reviewing test plans, analyzing test results and presenting analysis/status to Government customer
  • Assists on other projects within the Space Projects portfolio as needed

 

Qualifications

Required

  • A masters degree in engineering or science, 8 plus years of relevant progressive work experience in systems architecture, systems integration and/or systems engineering
  • Broad familiarity with Air Force Space Command, Intelligence Community and Civil and commercial space systems, ground systems, missions, and architectures
  • 8 plus years of progressive experience space acquisitions and system integration
  • High interest, enthusiasm, and motivation in addressing future national space security challenges
  • Willingness to work in high pace proposal preparation-like environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional high-performance teams
  • Ability to build and/or maintain substantive rapport with Aerospace peers and government customers
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes utilizing objective facts
  • Excellent written communication skills - can organize complex materials and concepts in a manner that is clear and logical
  • Excellent verbal communication skills - clear, concise, persuasive; builds consensus through speaking; polished, professional style
  • Some travel is required
  • Top Secret clearance and eligible for SCI access

 

Preferred

  • Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of cyber security requirements…red/black interface
  • Experience with a broad range of AF missions and architectures
  • Ability to organize and execute high quality, substantive events including technical forums, major studies and executive presentations
  • Technical depth in multiple mission areas including Remote Sensing, Communications and PNT
  • Familiarity with Aerospace Federal Government and Civil/Commercial customers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with high-level customer representatives
  • Experience with mentoring
  • Experience with cost estimation and risk management
