The Aerospace Developmental Planning and Projects (DPP) organization supports the Space and Missile Systems Center’s (SMC) Advanced Systems and Development Directorate (SMC/AD) and the Development Corps Program Executive Officer, in the development and execution of space prototypes. Aerospace supports SMC directed implementation of the Space Warfighting Construct (SWC) though, developmental planning, concept development, trade space analysis, and technology validation and integration. This position will provide technical, systems engineering, and programmatic leadership for architecture/requirement development, analysis, interface daily with senior government personnel and provide trusted counsel on decisions that impact the future development of the space enterprise.


Key Functions

The Project Leader will assume technical authority and function as the team lead. The person in this position is expected to lead and organize the Aerospace teams including program office and ETG personnel. Responsible for system of system concepts and evaluation with integration to modelling and simulation efforts for evaluation of the architecture in a contested environment. Coordination of large-scale technical efforts across the project and company are required. Key technical duties include:

  • Engineering and technical lead for the Air Force’s Commercially Augmented Space Inter Networked Operations (CASINO) Program
  • Leverage lessons from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) Blackjack program
  • Support CASINO requirements and architecture definition/implementation and enterprise integration studies
  • Establish CASINO Integrated Product Team (IPT) structure and systems engineering processes
  • Assist in the acquisition strategy, and development of request for proposal documentation
  • Cultivate collaboration across SMC 2.0 organizational structure, DARPA, Air Force Research Laboratories and numerous other government, commercial, and defense industrial base entities
  • Ability to analyze, integrate and champion multidiscipline feedback from the numerous ETG offices into a cohesive recommendation for the CASINO program manager



  • A master’s degree in engineering or science 8 plus years of relevant progressive work experience in systems architecture, systems integration and/or systems engineering
  • Broad familiarity with Air Force Space Command, Intelligence Community and Civil and commercial space systems, ground systems, missions, and architectures
  • Demonstrated ability to make high tech understandable, and influence outcomes utilizing objective facts
  • 6 plus years of progressive experience space acquisitions and system integration
  • High interest, enthusiasm, and motivation in addressing future national space security challenges
  • Self-starter, willing to work in fast pace environment, with evolving focus areas
  • Interest in low earth orbit proliferated architectures and the potential capabilities these architectures yield
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional high-performance teams
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate resources required for large-scale studies and analyses
  • Ability to build and/or maintain substantive rapport with Aerospace peers and government customers
  • Excellent written communication skills - can organize complex materials and concepts in a manner that is clear and logical
  • Excellent verbal communication skills - clear, concise, persuasive; builds consensus through speaking; polished, professional style
  • Some travel is required
  • Top Secret clearance and eligible for SCI access



  • An excellent personal technical reputation and a record of personal technical achievement in concept exploration, architecting, or prototyping, demonstration, and program planning
  • Experience with mission architectures and implementations
  • Experience with a broad range of AF missions and architectures
  • Ability to organize and execute high quality, substantive events including technical forums, major studies and executive presentations
  • Technical depth in multiple mission areas including Small Sats, Remote Sensing, Communications and PNT
  • Familiarity with Aerospace Federal Government and Civil/Commercial customers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with high-level customer representatives
  • Experience with mentoring
  • Experience with cost estimation and risk management
