Responsibilities
You will partner with the Government to ensure Mission Success of the Air Force Remote Sensing Systems Directorate (RS) to develop, acquire and deploy Next Generation Overhead Persistent InfraRed (OPIR) space assets that will bring increased performance and resilience to the nation's critical OPIR Missile Warning (MW) mission. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide communication engineering leadership and expertise as a member of the Aerospace Space Based Remote Sensing Division. You will be a critical resource in the discovery and implementation of SMC 2.0 and acceleration of assets to orbit. The Project Engineer's primary focus will be to serve as Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) GEO-5/6 and Next Gen Block 0 Communication Subsystem lead.
Key Functions
- Provide technical expertise and lead teams to:
- Monitor, assess and report progress on SBIRS Communication subsystem and unit design, development, build and test in the Lockheed Martin RF manufacturing facilities
- Ensure verification and validation of all the Communication subsystem and unit requirements
- Support SBIRS Next Generation Communication subsystem designs, upgrades and trade studies
- Participate in failure review boards, design reviews, manufacturing reviews, test readiness reviews, test exit reviews and other technical and status reviews
- Support cost, schedule and technical risk assessments
- Moderate travel
Qualifications
Required Qualifications for Level 2: Project Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, mathematics or related technical field
- 8 or more years of experience that includes aerospace industry experience, preferably in space systems
- Experience with space vehicle communication system design, manufacturing, test and operation
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers, contractors, other FFRDC and SETA personnel
- Ability to speak and present technical and status material to senior DoD and other US government officials
- Active Secret security clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI
- Moderate travel is required
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Required Qualifications for Level 3: Sr. Project Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, mathematics or related technical field
- 12 or more years of experience that includes aerospace industry experience, preferably in space systems
- Experience with space vehicle communication system design, manufacturing, test and operation
- Experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, contractors, other FFRDC, SETA personnel, or related
- Experience speaking and presenting technical and status material to senior leadership/customers
- Experience building teams and leading projects to successful conclusion
- Active Secret security clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret SCI
- Moderate travel is required
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in science and engineering preferred
- Experience in leading projects and conducting risk management in a rapid aquisition environment
- Knowledge and experience with radio frequency (RF) and electronics development
- Familiarity with hardware development, integration and testing at major space system suppliers
- Knowledgeable in state-of-the-art space communication subsystems
- Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance
