The SYE Technology Project Engineer will provide systems engineering expertise to the Air Force Space Superiority Systems Directorate (SY) in support of the Technology Branch programs. These programs and projects include Cyber, Optical, and RF related technologies for OSC, DSC, and SSA* capabilities.  Work directly with government customers and contractors to perform technical oversight of these development programs. 
Key Functions: 
  • Providing technical leadership, systems engineering and support to numerous technology assessments and development efforts.   
  • Support the Customer's acquisition processes, including pre-RFP studies, acquisition strategy development, cross-program integration, contractor solicitations, RFP development, evaluation and contract establishment and oversight.
  • Apply systems engineering expertise in support of system readiness processes; requirements validation, verification and test; and risk assessment.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of technology demonstrations and operational exercises.
  • Develop briefings and other program description documentation as required.
  • Assist in interfacing with enterprise architecture and planning teams, support CONOPS and interface definition, assist in developing enterprise-level integration plans, and developing plans for transition to programs-of-record.   
  • Mentor ETG and Customer personnel.
  • Duties also include managing development activities with industry contractors, FFRDCs and mission partner organizations to address technology development at a various stages of maturity.
  • This role requires some travel.

  • B.S. in engineering with a minimum of eight (8) years experience
  • Experience in AF systems engineering methodologies required.
  • Experience in space and ground systems development required.
  • Desired to have worked on at least one DOD space or ground program.
  • Experience with SMC systems engineering, Aerospace mission assurance and SSSD programs desired. 
  • Experience in RFP proposal evaluation desired. Experience in one or more of the following areas are desirable: system architecture development, cyber technologies, RF and digital communications, RF based sensing and optical based sensing, and OSC, DSC and SSA missions.
  • Experience in planning and executing technology demonstrations in operational environments desired. Clear written and oral communication skills required.
  • Current (background investigation less than five years old) TS and SCI clearance is mandatory. SY program clearance(s) desired.



  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and to interact effectively with the ETG, Air Force, SETAs, other FFRDCs, and contractor personnel.
