Responsibilities

The Ground Based SSA (Space Situation Awareness) Architect/Systems Engineer will provide engineering support to the AF Space Superiority Directorate (SY) in support of Ground Base Space Surveillance sensors (GBSS). Duties include systems engineering for all GBSS radars and optical telescopes, developing long term architecture and ensuring that the integration of all programs and projects are consistent with the plans. Of particular focus are, but not limited to: Space Surveillance Telescope, GEODSS Telescope, Eglin Radar, C Band Radar Australia, and C Band Radar Ascension. The duties include evolving the strategic planning of Space Situation Awareness (SSA) sensors and architecture with the government customers in Colorado Springs and in El Segundo.

 

This position can be located at either El Segundo, CA or Colorado Springs, CO. 

This position can be filled at a Level 2 or a Level 3. 

 

Key Functions

  • Ensure interfaces between inter- and intra-SY programs are clearly defined and consistent with each side's architecture modeling, simulation, and analysis; developing future SSA concepts, strategies, and architectures
  • Perform risk assessments and identify technology development as necessary
  • Briefings and strategic plans are to be developed as required, as well as mentoring customers
  • This position requires travel (expected 20-30%)

 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Level 2 

  • B.S. in Engineering or related with a minimum of 8 years' applicable experience
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Must have experience working with minimum supervision and interacting effectively with coworkers from other organizations, groups or companies
  • Current Secret clearance 
  • Ability to travel as needed as needed

 

Required Qualifications for Level 3

  • B.S. in Engineering or related with a minimum of 12 years' applicable experience
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Must have experience working with minimum supervision and interacting effectively with coworkers from other organizations, groups or companies
  • Current Secret clearance 
  • Ability to travel as needed as needed

 

Preferred

  • Experience in one of the following: systems architecture definition; space systems design development; and ground systems design/development
  • Experience with DOD acquisition, including RFP development and source selections
  • Experience on at least one DOD space or ground program
  • Experience with one or more of the following: SSA concepts, strategies and architectures; architecture modeling, simulation and analyses; Radar based or Optical remote sensing; SSD programs
  • Familiarity with Engineering and Technology Group modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities 
  • DOD SAP (Special Access Program) clearance(s)
  • Current TS and SCI clearance (with background investigation less than five years old)
