Responsibilities

The Architecture and Design Subdivision (ADS) is an interdisciplinary systems engineering organization with wide-ranging capabilities in the areas of enterprise and systems-of-systems analysis, space and launch systems architecture, conceptual and detailed design trades and analysis at the mission and vehicle levels, algorithm development, mission evaluation, and space systems protection and resilience.  The subdivision currently includes about 80 technical staff developing and applying world-class enterprise and system architecture and design capabilities with expertise recognized across industry and academia across 5 corporate geographic locations. The Principal Systems Engineering Advisor will promote and facilitate the adoption and exploitation of emerging systems engineering technologies and capabilities within the fields of Enterprise Systems Engineering (ESE), Digital Engineering (DE), and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for the ADS.  This position will support Aerospace strategic focus areas such as Strategic Warfighting Construct (SWC) and resiliency, as well as enterprise engineering for future space systems and non-space customers.

 

Key Functions

 

  • Perform technology assessments and technology insertion assessments
  • Assess Aerospace and organizational capabilities and gaps in emerging systems engineering methods and recommend courses of action to improve
  • Explore the design, performance, and cost trade space to identify design drivers
  • Evaluation of architecture concepts and analysis of alternatives
  • Support design reviews and independent readiness review team, especially for digital engineering and model-based artifacts               
  • Deliver training in enterprise systems engineering and model-based systems engineering
  • Mentor staff the application of these capabilities, including graduate and undergraduate interns
  • Generally assigned to overall systems engineering efforts on major projects or to large systems with the Systems Engineering Division and across other company divisions as necessary

Qualifications

 

Required

 

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or another technical discipline
  • 15 Years of technical experience in systems architecting and engineering and technology development to support national security programs and customers
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance 
  • An established scholarly record and reputation in Systems Engineering Research
  • Current or recent faculty membership in a reputable university Systems Engineering program
  • Strong achievement in leadership roles in related professional organizations and systems engineering centers of excellence, such as INCOSE, IEEE, AIAA, DIA, and SERC, and their relevant societies and technical committees
