Responsibilities

The Structural Dynamics Department mission is to provide to our internal and external customers the highest quality technical expertise in the areas of analytical, experimental, flexible, and rigid body dynamics for the design, development, acquisition, and operation of space launch and orbital systems.  We specialize in spacecraft and launch vehicle dynamics; mode survey test planning and independent data assessment; time series data analysis; independent integrated spacecraft/launch vehicle coupled loads analysis; and flexible system separation analysis and testing.

 

Key Functions

  • Provide technical support and expertise in the design, development, and maintenance of software used in mechanical engineering analyses
  • Develop numerical algorithms and parallel programming methods for multiprocessor UNIX systems
  • Working with the controls, structural dynamics, and other disciplines develop multidisciplinary simulation tools that incorporate structural dynamic models and stability control systems
  • Develop and maintain application software in FORTRAN, Python, and C++, and provide user support with complex mathematical problems

 

This position can be filled as a Member of Technical Staff or a Senior Member of Technical Staff. 

Qualifications

Required

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering,  Aerospace Engineering or other technical area
  • Experience with C++, FORTRAN or Python
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

Preferred

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: statistics, control theory, signal processing, and/or time series data analysis
  • Graduate level coursework or direct experience in Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, and Computer Science
  • Experience in the development of application software using FORTRAN, or other languages in a UNIX environment

 

 

Required for a Senior Memeber of Technical Staff

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with at least four years of software development or engineering analysis experience or a Ph.D. with two years of experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

Preferred for a Senior Member of Technical Staff

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: statistics, control theory, signal processing, and/or time series data analysis
  • Experience in the development of application software using FORTRAN, or other languages in a UNIX environment
