Responsibilities

The Structural Dynamics Department mission is to provide to our internal and external customers the highest quality technical expertise in the areas of analytical, experimental, flexible, and rigid body dynamics for the design, development, acquisition, and operation of space launch and orbital systems.  We specialize in spacecraft and launch vehicle dynamics; mode survey test planning and independent data assessment; time series data analysis; independent integrated spacecraft/launch vehicle couple loads analysis; and flexible system separation analysis and testing.

 

Key Functions

  • Provide technical support and expertise in the design, development, and maintenance of software tools used in mechanical engineering analysis
  • Develop numerical algorithms and parallel programming methods for multiprocessor UNIX systems
  • Work with controls, structural dynamics, and other disciplines to develop multidisciplinary simulation tools
  • Develop and maintain application software in languages such as FORTRAN, Python, and C++, and provide user support with complex mathematical problems

 

This position can be filled as a Member of Technical Staff or a Senior Member of Technical Staff. 

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other technical area
  • Experience with C++, FORTRAN, Python, or other programming languages
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

 

Preferred

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field
  • Coursework in one or more of the following areas: mechanical or aerospace engineering, statistics, control theory, signal processing, and/or time series data analysis
  • Graduate level coursework or experience in Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, and Computer programming
  • Experience in the development of application software in a UNIX environment

 

Required for a Senior Member of Technical Staff

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with at least four years of software development or engineering analysis experience or a Ph.D. with two years of experience
  • Experience with C++, FORTRAN, Python, or other programming languages
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

 

Preferred for a Senior Member of Technical Staff

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: statistics, control theory, signal processing, and/or time series data analysis
  • Experience in the development of application software in a UNIX environment
