Responsibilities

The Software Systems Quality and Analysis Department is seeking a Section Manager. This role is responsible for creating new capabilities to improve the velocity and quality of software processes for ground systems and space-related software, in the face of changing technologies including cloud technologies, MBSE, Open Source, SOA, DevOps, Artificial Intelligence, and data lakes and pipelines. 

 

 Key Functions

  • Assisting the Department Director in creating and maintaining forward thinking technical vision and a strategic plan
  • Leading projects, initiatives, and teams involving defining innovative software processes that increase the velocity, quality, and transparency of software development processes for on-time delivery of reliable, maintainable, and reusable capabilities.
  • Identifying customer needs involving software process improvement in the context of new technologies and government requirements
  • Exploring and applying innovative technologies to advance the state of the art in software process for government systems and new acquisitions.
  • Developing staff through formal and informal performance management, evaluation, mentoring, and tasking
  • Planning and executing business functions (e.g., budget, resource allocation, corporate policies and practices)
  • Strengthening the department technical capabilities through effective team building and hiring
  • Providing software systems engineering skills and technical support to space and ground systems.
  • Teaming with other department members to develop and deploy innovative new capabilities to improve Aerospace’s ability to measure, control, assess, and improve software process for space and defense systems.
  • Obtaining and managing staff work assignments
  • Ensuring the technical quality of section products
  • Participating in technical interchange meetings, reviews, briefings, and personal contact with Aerospace, customer, and contractor personnel.

Qualifications

Required

  • B. S. in computer science, engineering, statistics, data science, or technical equivalent
  • Eight or more years of software development experience, or Graduate Degree and six or more years of software development experience. 
  • Hands on experience with modern software process approaches, including Agile, DevOps, and/or instrumentation of the Software Factory.
  • Two or more years project leadership or management experience in a technical discipline
  • Experience with the software system life-cycle, and with software process methodologies.
  • Training and/or experience in the software systems life-cycle.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lead tasks and teams
  • Willing to hire, develop staff members and learn new skills
  • Must be able to work on multiple tasks concurrently
  • Strong written and oral communications and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Willing to travel occasionally
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. 

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree, Masters or PhD
  • Experience working with Aerospace and customer program offices
  • Training in methodologies for measuring and improving processes.
  • Six Sigma or Lean training / experience
