Responsibilities

We are seeking a Linux Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) that will lead the Enterprise Computing Infrastructure Department to design and implement site reliability engineering.  SRE’s enjoy designing and improving the process of deploying, upgrading and scaling Linux systems and software using automation and configuration management tools.  Whenever possible, you will automate and configure as code.  The Enterprise Computing Infrastructure Department is responsible for enterprise Windows, Linux and storage infrastructure for the Aerospace Corporation.  You will play a vital role in improving our services and interfacing with engineers and scientists that are involved with cutting edge space and launch capabilities.

 

Key Functions

  • Build and improve configuration and automation tools to remove manual steps in deployment of Linux systems and software across the enterprise environment enabling more rapid, reliable and secure deployment, upgrades and scale out.
  • Build, improve and maintain monitoring tools to ensure that enterprise Linux systems meet service level objectives.
  • Lead roll-out and deployment of new product features that facilitate rapid iteration and continued growth including documentation and knowledge transfer to other team members.
  • Capacity planning and demand forecasting, anticipating performance bottlenecks and scaling the environment as needed

 

This position is available as an Aerospace Corporation Staff III or IV.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with administration and provisioning of Linux servers in a large scale enterprise environment (4 years experience)
  • Strong scripting ability (Bash, Perl, PowerShell, Ruby, Python, etc) (3 years experience)
  • Working knowledge of server virtualization with VMWare (3 years experience)
  • Experience automating repetitive tasks with scripting or applications
  • Experience with both bare metal and virtual system provisioning, orchestration and configuration management
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible (2 years experience)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Must possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational need
  • Effective interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations
  • Strong sense of ownership, customer service, and integrity.
  • Proven experience as a Linux System Engineer with exceptional troubleshooting skills
  • An eye for automation and instrumentation
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • US Citizenship

 

Preferred

  • Experience with containers in a production environment
  • Hybrid systems and software engineer with software development ability and proclivity
  • Experience and knowledge of DevOps
  • SCI Clearance

 

Qualifications Staff IV

 

Required

  • Staff III required qualifications from above
  • Extensive experience with bare metal and virtual system provisioning, orchestration and configuration management (4+ Years)
  • Extensive experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible (2 Years+)
  • Subject matter expert level knowledge of at least one configuration management system (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc.)
  • Subject matter expert in at least one of the following areas: automation, configuration management, site reliability engineering.
  • Experience as a team lead, guiding and mentoring team members in areas of automation, configuration management or site reliability engineering.
  • Hybrid systems and software engineer with software development ability and proclivity

 

Preferred

  • Experience with containers in a production environment
  • Experience and knowledge of DevOps
  • SCI Clearance
