Acts as senior technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or team leader in support of evaluating launch vehicle proividers to launch National Security Space missions in the Alternative Launch Vehicle (ALV) Directorate. May lead or organize interfaces between customers' and Aerospace technical and management staff for Structures related issues. Coordinates large-scale technical efforts across program/project lines. Mentors less experienced MTS and serves as role model.


Key Functions

  • Manage technical activities associated with evaluating launch vehicle structures and associated assemblies for new entrant launch vehicle providers
  • Manage Aerospace ETG technical activities that assure the integrity and stability of launch structures and mechanisms subjected to static, thermal, and dynamic loads
  • Coordinate ETG efforts to ensure that the potential ALV provider’s design, analysis, test methodology and documentation are compliant with EELV government evaluation criteria for non-recurring design validation and recurring verification program
  • Lead interactions with program office staff responsible for other aspects of launch systems 
  • Support program management and systems engineering activities as needed
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and documents as needed in support of program activities and Aerospace processes 
  • Work with management to develop STE plans as needed
  • Provide Certification and Mission Assurance support in areas that include
  • Assessment of composite and metallic LV components
  • Primary pressurized and non-pressurized LV structures, and secondary LV structures.
  • Work closely with Air Force and Aerospace program offices, Contractor engineering personnel, and representatives from other government agencies
  • Provide technical advice/recommendations and informs Customer/Aerospace management of technical activities, issues and accomplishments through reports and briefings
  • In systems engineering assignments, generally leads/coordinates team comprised of diversely skilled engineers servicing a major portion of a large project or working across projects, and interfaces regularly with customer and contractor program management


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/structural mechanics or related field from a recognized institution required. MS degree or higher is preferred.



  • 12 or more years of experience with increasing responsibility professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
  • Experience with structural analysis, design and testing of launch vehicle systems and subsystems
  • Current Secret clearance or ability to obtain a clearance



  • Experience with both metallic and composite structures
  • Exhibits exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
  • Experience with the systems engineering aspects of structures, including definition and verification of requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
