Responsibilities

The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD) at The Aerospace Corporation conducts basic and applied research in microelectronic and optoelectronic devices for space applications, and provides technical support to national security space programs in these areas.  The MTD is looking for a member of the technical staff to support investigations of microelectronics reliability, radiation effects, advanced microelectronics technology nodes, capability development, novel devices, and physics of failure in advanced CMOS, SiGe, SOI, III-V, II-VI, and other advanced materials, processes, devices for space applications.

 

The staff member will perform reliability analyses of integrated circuits critical to national security space programs, participate in failure analysis and anomaly resolution activities, and assess designs and performance of ICs using electrical test equipment and device simulation.  This work requires developing knowledge of security aspects of ASICS, CPLDs and FPGAs and will span digital, analog, and mixed signal ICs.  This will include analysis and evaluation of existing IC hardware functionality for protection of critical information and/or intellectual property.

 

The staff member must exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and desire to work in an environment requiring self-motivation and independence as well as project leadership and teamwork.

 

Key Functions

  • Conduct innovative basic and applied research in integrated circuit fault isolation, reverse engineering, and hardware security verification and validation
  • Develop capabilities in circuit & device modeling and materials physics simulation
  • Develop capabilities in failure analysis and functional security characterization
  • Present results internally and at scientific meetings and publish research in refereed journals
  • Provide technical support to national security space programs in these areas

 

This position can be filled as a Member of Technical Staff or a Senior Member of Technical Staff.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or material science with at least 3 years of microelectronics experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms 
  • Experience with IC devices and semiconductor physics
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance

 

Preferred

  • PhD in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or material science
  • Knowledge of circuit edit techniques
  • Knowledge of cryptographic security and side-channel analysis

 

 

Required for Senior Member of Technical Staff

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or material science with at least 5 years of microelectronics experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms
  • Experience with IC devices and semiconductor physics
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance

 

Preferred for Senior Member of Technical Staff

  • PhD in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or material science
  • Knowledge of circuit edit techniques
