Responsibilities

The Industrial Security Specialist is responsible for providing a variety of security support and ensuring compliance with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM).  The position provides on-site support for all security actions in accordance with corporate and governmental policies and directives.  The selected candidate for this position will be responsible for the personnel security discipline supporting DOD customers with the Security & Safety Directorate.  We are looking for an Industrial Security Specialist to provide personnel security expertise and support DOD government requirements.  Duties include the following:

 

Key Functions

  • Preparing and submitting investigative packages by initiating individuals in the Office of Personnel Management’s Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing and ensure completeness of the security questionnaire
  • Working with the DOD Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS)
  • Interviewing new hires for clearance processing
  • Interfaces with government background investigators
  • Reports incidents in JPAS
  • Processing classified visit requests
  • Process employee security clearances in accordance with DoD regulations
  • Process DOE security clearances in accordance with DOE regulations
  • Creating, updating and maintaining various files and filing systems including complex databases.
  • Take digital fingerprints of employees and electronically transmit them to the government
  • Handling and resolving problems associated with clearance issues and visit requests
  • Processing ECAs and NATO refresher briefings
  • Works with and handles High Sensitivity/PII information daily
  • Handling constant phone inquiries and walk in customers regarding security matters
  • Provides security access control guidance to lobby receptionists on incoming visitors
  • Coordinates large workshops with Corporate Communications
  • Prepares and participates in government inspections
  • Frequent interaction with all levels of employees, management, Air Force, contractors and government dealing with personnel security issues and visitor access
  • Update clearance eligibility and special restrictions in JPAS
  • Conducts termination debriefings and ensures employees understand their life long obligation to safeguard classified and proprietary information
  • Issues badges and parking decals
  • Other administrative duties as requested 

 

This position can be filled at a Level 2 or Level 3

Qualifications

Requirements for Level 2

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR  8 or more years of personnel security clearance experience with High school Diploma.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have the ability to be discreet when working with sensitive personnel information
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD TOP Secret clearance
  • Requires some light lifting, reaching and stooping

 

Requirements for Level 3

  • 5 or more years of personnel security clearance experience with Bachelor’s degree OR 3 or more years of personnel security experience with a Master’s degree.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience leading projects and working cross functionally with teams
  • Must have the ability to be discreet when working with sensitive personnel information
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance
  • Requires some light lifting, reaching and stooping

 

Preferred

  • Knowledge of the National Industrial Security Operating Manual, NISPOM.
  • Working knowledge of JPAS
  • Completion of DSS FSO Management Course
  • Bachelor's degree. or 8 or more years of relevant experience with High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Fingerprint experience
  • Must be dependable, flexible, detailed oriented and demonstrate initiative and good judgement
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills are essential
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize and efficiently manage workload and work effectively under pressure of schedule deadlines
  • Must perform well in both individual and team settings, and work effectively with staff, customers and management personnel
  • Must be highly customer service oriented and able to perform with minimum supervision
  • Must have the ability to make sound decisions and respond to requests quickly
  • Must be tactful and professional

 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment to complete activities
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence.
  • Some light lifting (10 lbs. maximum), reaching and bending
  • Requires some light lifting, reaching and stooping
