The Operational Programs Division (OPD) of Civil Systems Program Operations (CSPO) has responsibility for the mission success of multi-agency operational satellite programs where NASA has responsibility for mission system development and integration.  These programs are Landsat, Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS), and Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES). Their mission systems integrate spacecraft bus(es), instrument suites, ground stations, command, control and data processing systems, and operations and engineering staffs distributed worldwide. The success of these highly integrated systems demands a rigorous, disciplined mission systems engineering approach that harmonizes system development, procurement practices, systems integration, operations readiness, and transition from development to operations. Aerospace’s role is to serve as trusted members of multi-agency, multi-contractor development, integration, and/or operations teams to drive mission success.  



This role provides direct support to the NASA JPSS Flight Project as the FP’s in-plant representative at the Northrop Grumman (NG) facility in Azusa, CA, where the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) instruments are being assembled. The duties include: establishing and maintaining positive relationships with JPSS FP and NG technical and program management staff; providing technical and management support to the FP instrument management by performing technical evaluations of proposals, organization/maintenance of file sharing area, preparation of weekly reports, tracking deliverables, etc; identification, mitigation, and resolution of technical and schedule risks and/or issues impacting instrument development.  Occasional travel to the JPSS facility (Lanham, MD), satellite assembly facility (Gilbert, AZ) and other subcontractor facilities are required.




  • A baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience in engineering, physical science, or equivalent technical discipline is required.
  • A minimum of eight years of applicable direct experience with space flight hardware development is required. 
  • Proven knowledge and expertise in at least one core area of space systems engineering— requirements, design, component procurement and/or assembly, integration, test—is required.
  • Proven experience designing, developing and/or testing radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave antenna systems and/or related RF hardware is required   
  • The proven capability to evaluate issues and solve problems from a systems perspective is required.
  • Proven ability to organize teams and coordinate work across multiple areas simultaneously is required. 
  • Self-sufficiency, initiative, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • The ability and motivation to work effectively and collaboratively with Government, Aerospace and Contractor personnel are required. 



  • Proven management experience is highly desired.  
  • Experience with NASA processes and standards is highly desired.
  • Experience in multiple areas of space systems engineering is highly desired.
  • The ability to analyze a broad array of technical information and identify salient points is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent analysis and prepare and present clear and concise technical reports is highly desired.
  • Established ability and experience working joint projects between multiple government agencies and organizations are highly desired.
