Responsibilities

The Model Based Systems Engineering Office (MBSEO) integrates corporate space system modeling capabilities to provide space systems engineering analysis, education, and support to space program decision makers and other stakeholders. To do this, the MBSEO operates several unclassified and classified Concept Design Center (CDC) computer labs where engineering teams collaborate using integrated, but disparate, software tools that access databases and exchange data. The CDC is an internationally recognized center of excellence in collaborative, concurrent design of space and ground systems that draws on technical experts from across Aerospace (see our CDC video at https://aerospace.org/video/concept-design-center).  The Systems Administrator will assist in managing these labs.

Key Functions

 

  • Work with the technical team to provide comprehensive system administration for two computer labs and assist with managing the lab’s file shared systems permission.
  • Manage three Virtual Servers, Network License Network server and PostgreSQL database.
  • Maintain client configuration control.
  • Install, configure, test and implement new systems or applications software.
  • Monitor and tune system and network resources to optimize application throughput and response time. 
  • Implement and monitor effective backup and recovery tools and processes. 
  • Create and modify user accounts, printer queues, logical volumes and manage file systems.
  • Develop and oversee operational processes and procedures for use by other support personnel. 
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for use by system administrators and other support personnel. 
  • Develop tools, interfaces, and automation aids for use by system administrators and other support personnel using shell scripting languages or VB.
  • Consult with providers of applications within the labs to support lab users.
  • Provide technical input for strategic planning of lab spaces and networks.
  • Provide Information Assurance (IA) oversight for unclassified and classified networks and host facilities to ensure DoD IA compliance.
  • Implement systems security engineering plans, designs, and reports. This includes network security, security operations, and incident response.
  • Analyze, implement, and audit a host system and network security. 
  • Manage a computer lab access control system.
  • Oversee the labs’ equipment and facility maintenance
  • Maintain hardware inventory for all computer lab equipment.

 

 

This position is available at Level II and Level III

Qualifications

Requiered for Level II

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current TS/SCI clearance
  • Security + certification
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience with High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience supporting, configuring, and maintaining operating systems, hardware, applications, and system automation and configuration management technologies
  • Vendor management experience
  • Experience conducting user training
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems

 

Requiered for Level III

 

  • Eight (8) or more years of relevant experience with High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current TS/SCI clearance and Security + certification
  • Experience supporting, configuring, and maintaining operating systems, hardware, applications, and system automation and configuration management technologies
  • Vendor management experience
  • Experience conducting user training
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems

  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree
