Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader with a passion for research and technology who is ready to help shape of future of Aerospace. Physical Sciences Laboratories is a leader in space-related science and technology with long history of providing innovative scientific research and assessments for our customers. In this newly created role, you will lead a world class team of approximately 250 engineers and scientists. As the General Manger, Physical Sciences Laboratories, you will also be responsible for partnering with the Office of the Chief Technology Officer and other organizations within the Engineering and Technology Group on research and technology activities through concept and delivery.

This highly visible position includes regular engagement with senior Aerospace leaders and their staff.

 

The position is located in El Segundo, CA and reports to the Senior Vice President, Engineering and Technology Group.

 

Key Functions

  • Lead and manage a dynamic team of world-class engineers and scientists
  • Establish the organizations strategic priorities
  • Support the corporate-level strategy by ensuring it is filtered down to relevant goals for each group, while maintaining alignment between all laboratories
  • Preserve, develop, and advance scientific capabilities of PSL
  • Creative problem-solver who can who independently and drive for results
  • Manage a large capital and overhead budget
  • Develop and implement innovative methodologies that continually strengthen the organization
  • Provide strategic direction to PSL leaders and staff members
  • Lead recruitment activities and professional development of PSL staff members
  • Identify and pursue technical collaborations within Aerospace
  • Lead interactions with the external science community
  • Proactively build relationships with customers, internal and external
  • Manage corporate metrology office, including EMI practices corporately.
  • Collaborate with other ETG laboratories on activities of mutual interest such as safety

Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree in physical sciences, engineering or related technical discipline
  • Laboratory experience
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Current SCI access
  • Deep knowledge of space industry and customers
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment during a time of great change
  • Cross-functional collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to make critical decisions and influence others
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to establish rapport and build trust quickly at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to travel

 

Preferred

  • Ph.D.
  • Experience working in customer-facing organizations
