Responsibilities

 

The GPS III program is responsible for the development and production of the next-generation GPS III satellites.  The USAF is producing and deploying 10 GPS III satellites that will provide expanded warfighter and civilian capabilities.  We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to provide technical and programmatic support to the GPS III launch vehicle integration efforts and interact effectively with the USAF, Aerospace’s Engineering & Technology Group (ETG), and contractors in a fast-paced program office environment.  The selected applicant will be expected to proactively lead Aerospace’s efforts to help its AF customer integrate the GPS III satellite with launch vehicles from different providers.  This position will be located on the Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo, CA. 

 

This position can be filled as a Level 2: GPS Systems Project Engineer or as a Level 3: GPS Systems Sr Project Engineer.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Provide launch vehicle integration support in all areas of the GPS III effort, including the development and verification of interface requirements and leadership of special studies
  • Participate as part of a team of diversely skilled engineers focused on the production and deployment of the remaining 9 GPS III satellites, including technical performance requirement assessments, risk assessment and management, and program execution
  • Work as part of a team that includes Aerospace, government, an SE&I contractor, SETA contractors, and the prime contractor and their subcontractors identifying issues, providing non-directive advice, prioritizing evaluation tasks and facilitating communication
  • Provide clear and concise oral and well-written communications in a timely and consistent manner 
  • Act as the technical representative to the Air Force covering Systems Engineering and Integration disciplines in support of Launch Operations on the GPS III contract.
  • Act as a liaison between the satellite and launch vehicle program office teams, including preparation for launch milestones, development and verification of interface requirements, evaluation of SV launch configurations and system test reports, and communication of Government technical decisions to satellite and launch vehicle contractors. 
  • Provide technical expertise to ensure successful program milestone reviews, contract modifications, review of contractor deliverables, requirements development, risks, and schedules.
  • Investigate technical problems, assemble briefings and reports, and provide technical data to address Government Action Items and programmatic taskers.

Qualifications

Required for Level 2: GPS Systems Engineer - Project Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution
  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience
  • Experience with satellite  or launch vehicle systems, including satellite and/or launch vehicle development, production, mission integration, test, and/or operation
  • Current Secret clearance
  • Ability to lead and effectively manage technical projects
  • Ability to manage Engineering & Technology Group (ETG) matrix support
  • Ability to synthesize and present technical data clearly and concisely, providing recommendations and informing Customer/Aerospace management of technical activities, issues and accomplishments through reports and briefings to senior level management
  • Ability to travel domestically and occasionally support extended work hours

 

Required for Level 3: GPS Systems Engineer - Sr. Project Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution
  • 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience
  • Experience with satellite or launch vehicle systems, including satellite and/or launch vehicle development, production, mission integration, test, and/or operation
  • Experience leading and effectively managing projects
  • Experience synthesizing and presenting technical data clearly and concisely
  • Current Secret clearance
  • Ability to manage Engineering & Technology Group (ETG) matrix support
  • Ability to provide recommendations to, and informing Customer/Aerospace management of technical activities, issues and accomplishments through reports and briefings to senior level management
  • Ability to travel domestically and occasionally support extended work hours

 

Preferred

  • Lockheed Martin A2100-specific launch operations experience, including space vehicle bus and/or payload operations
  • Detailed design knowledge of the GPS space vehicle families, both current and future, and/or the GPS Control Segment
  • Detailed knowledge of GPS system design and operation
  • Detailed payload integration and launch vehicle operations knowledge, including, that for the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle family of boosters or other launch vehicles
  • Current Top Secret/SCI clearance
