Direct the GPS IIIF Department within the GPS Space Systems Subdivision of the Navigation Division. The successful applicant will lead a team of program office engineers and their ETG support in their responsibilities and accountabilities associated with the General Systems Engineering and Integration (GSE&I) of all aspects of the GPS IIIF program. These responsibilities include the acquisition, design definition, build, test, and integration of all GPS IIIF satellite hardware and software for up to 22 satellites. This also includes the overall testing of the fully-integrated SVs.


Key Functions

  • Lead and mentor staff to proactively identify necessary and value-added tasks to execute the GPS IIIF acquisition program and their conduct interacting with the Air Force team and the contractor team
  • Act as the GPS IIIF Chief Engineer for the Government team, responsible for all technical work by the Government team
  • Lead, mentor, and act as a counterpart for the Government team members, including fulfillment of the role of the trusted partner for the Air Force’s GPS IIIF Materiel Leader/Program Manager.
  • Work as part of a Government, Aerospace, contractor team, that includes both the prime contractor and major subcontractors. This includes acting as the counterpart to the contractor’s GPS IIIF Chief Engineer, fostering a positive, respectful, and mutually beneficial relationship.
  • Ensure timely identification of technical and programmatic risks, strategically plan for their mitigation, and successfully lead and manage them to closure.
  • Work with the Aerospace GPS III Chief Engineer and other members of the Space Systems management team to ensure that all appropriate program office and ETG expertise is identified and fully engaged to resolve the issues.
  • Lead the department’s iMAT-related documentation of efforts to assure mission success.
  • Brief status, issues, and risks to Senior Aerospace and Government leaders.
  • Conduct all pertinent Aerospace program office management duties including surveillance of staff activities; managing labor, travel, and overhead budgets; providing timely weekly reports and watchlist items to the Space Systems Principal Director that require little-to-no editing; and participating in continuous, on-going performance feedback to staff, including the timely execution of the formal feedback process.
  • Work closely within Aerospace’s Space Program Operations organization and the GPS III and the Next Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared satellite program office to try to maximize the cooperation between those acquisitions with the IIIF acquisition, with the goal of using identical processes and possibly having line-replaceable units.
  • Work with SMC’s Production Corps, Development Corps, and Portfolio Architect organizations to engage in special studies as needed.



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
  • At least 12 years of relevant experience, with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Demonstrated successful and strong leadership of teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with the Air Force, Aerospace, and contractor personnel
  • Ability to proactively identify technical and programmatic risks, strategically plan for their mitigation, and successfully lead and manage them to closure and full mitigation, including the documentation of that closure through the use of iMAT required
  • At times, significant travel (mainly to Colorado)
  • Secret clearance and ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance



  • Advanced degree in engineering or science
  • Demonstrated experience in active andsuccessful mentoring
  • Experience in the build, test, and troubleshoot of space-qualified hardware and/or software
  • Demonstrated expertise in satellite systems
  • GPS navigation experience
  • A current TS/SCI clearance
  • Successful management experience
