Responsibilities

The multidisciplinary and diverse team of the Embedded Control Systems Department develops high-fidelity launch vehicle and spacecraft closed-loop hardware and software testbeds, and real-time embedded software for picosats and other emerging technologies. This technical expertise is also relied upon for independent analysis and testing of embedded control software for a wide range of launch vehicles, spacecraft, and other systems.

 

Key Functions

  • Develop avionics and real-time embedded and ground software for picosats, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and other emerging technologies
  • Conduct tests and perform analyses of software systems for launch vehicles, spacecraft, picosats, and other mission-critical components of space systems
  • Develop tools and techniques for enhancing analysis and simulation capabilities

 

This position can be filled as an Associate Member of Technical Staff or a Member of Technical Staff.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree completed in engineering, science, mathematics or related field 
  • Experience in Python or C/C++
  • Experience or coursework in embedded software
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance which is issued by the US Government. US Citizenship is required for a clearance

 

Preferred

  • 2 or more years of engineering/scientific experience
  • Coursework or experience relevant to embedded systems, electronics, avionics, dynamics, control systems, software development, software testing, and/or modeling/simulation
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following programming languages:  Matlab/Simulink, Fortran, Ada, Java, VBA, Python, Perl and/or Assembly
  • Coursework or experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Hands-on experience with microprocessors, microelectronics, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, electronics, and/or mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of various communication protocols such as UART, SPI, and I2C
  • Experience modifying and generating makefiles for Make and/or using CMake
  • Coursework or experience relevant to launch vehicles and/or spacecraft
  • A working knowledge of object oriented software design and implementation
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems

 

 

Required for Member of Technical Staff

  • Master's or PhD degree completed in engineering, science, mathematics with at least a year experience including internships
  • Experience in Python or C/C++
  • Experience or coursework in embedded software
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance which is issued by the US Government. US Citizenship is required for a clearance
