Responsibilities

The Electronics and Photonics Laboratory (EPL) conducts research, development and analytical tasks in the application of electron and optical physics to space systems.  Its expertise and capabilities range over nine orders of magnitude in electron and photon energies.  Its efforts are focused on three important spacecraft technologies: energy, microelectronics and photonics.  EPL comprises three departments that support space programs employing those technologies, and EPL scientists directly support virtually all National Security Space Programs.

 

Key Functions

  • Provide strategic direction and priorities for EPL staff
  • Maintain, improve and develop technical capabilities of EPL appropriate to customer base
  • Manage EPL personnel
  • Guide recruitment and professional development of EPL staff
  • Manage EPL support to NSG, SSG, DSG and CSG programs
  • Responsible for off-ceiling projects under direct EPL cognizance
  • Manage EPL overhead, capital and facilities budgets
  • Communicate corporate and PSL policies to EPL staff; communicate EPL staff needs/concerns to PSL management
  • Encourage timely publication and dissemination of scientific and technical results from EPL

Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree in physical sciences, engineering or related discipline with at least 15 years of laboratory experience
  • Experience managing an organization
  • Experience giving technical presenations and writing technical documentaiton 
  • Current SCI clearance

 

Preferred

  • Familiarity with technical disciplines supported by EPL
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior level Aerospace, government and contractor personnel
  • Ability to attract and maintain high quality staff
