Responsibilities

The Visible and Infrared Sensor Systems Department supports the design and deployment of electro-optical sensor payloads for civil, commercial, and national space systems. Our activities include: concept definition and mission-driven design-synthesis of electro-optical space sensors; detailed characterization and performance analysis of visible and infrared electro-optical detector arrays; design, assembly, integration, and test of ground and airborne prototype sensors; high-fidelity modeling and simulation of the performance of both individual electro-optical sensors and constellations of space and ground sensors. This posting is targeted for an electro-optical sensor analyst.

 

Key Functions

  • Provide electro-optical expertise in the areas of Earth remote sensing, space situational awareness, and/or overhead persistent infrared
  • Provide oversight, guidance and technical advice on customer projects involving remote sensing
  • Support the development of new remote sensing concepts with modeling and simulation, including the development of technical performance requirements and in the assessment of proposed designs
  • Work with other engineers as a team member to solve multi-disciplinary problems
  • Interface frequently with program office and government personnel

 

This position is available as an Aerospace Corporation Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist

Qualifications

Required 

  • Degree from an accredited university in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or another related field
  • Strong computer programing skills in an engineering application environment or programming language (e.g. MATLAB, Python, IDL, C/C++, Fortran)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information TS/SCI SSBI security clearance
  • A minimum of 5-years of experience post-bachelor degree, either in the workforce or in pursuit of an advanced degree in a related field 

 

Preferred

  • An advanced degree in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or another related field
  • A minimum of 5-years of experience post-degree in the workforce
  • Currently possess a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information TS/SCI SSBI security clearance
  • Strong analytic problem-solving skills relating to the performance of visible and infrared sensors including: radiometry, radiative transfer, detection theory, and visible and infrared backgrounds
  • Experience in algorithm development and implementation, data reduction and analysis, and electro-optical system performance modeling
  • Experience using common codes to calculate atmospheric transmission as it relates to electro-optical radiometry (e.g. MODTRAN)

 

Requirements for Engineering Specialist

Required

  • Degree from an accredited university in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or another related field
  • A minimum of 8-years of experience post-bachelor degree, either in the workforce or in pursuit of an advanced degree in a related field
  • Extensive experience using a common processing language (e.g. MATLAB, Python, IDL, C/C++, Fortran) to analyze data and implement solutions to problems in remote sensing
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information TS/SCI SSBI security clearance
  • Must be able to work across organizations and with outside customers to complete technical assignments
  • Demonstrated technical and project leadership experience
  • Track record of mentoring junior staff
