Responsibilities

The Visible and Infrared Sensor Systems Department supports the design and deployment of electro-optical sensor payloads for civil, commercial, and national space systems. Our activities include: concept definition and mission-driven design-synthesis of electro-optical space sensors; detailed characterization and performance analysis of visible and infrared electro-optical detector arrays; design, assembly, integration, and test of ground and airborne prototype sensors; high-fidelity modeling and simulation of the performance of both individual electro-optical sensor and configurations of space and ground sensors. This posting is targeted in the area of electro-optical sensor engineering.

 

***This role can be filled as an Aerospace Member of Technical Staff or Senior Member of Technical Staff ***

 

Key Functions

  • Provide electro-optical expertise in the areas of Earth remote sensing, space situational awareness, and/or overhead persistent infrared
  • Provide oversight, guidance and technical advice on customer projects involving remote sensing
  • Support the development of new remote sensing concepts from modeling and simulation through design, construction, and testing of prototypes
  • Work with other engineers as a team member to solve multi-disciplinary problems
  • Interface frequently with program office and government personnel
  • This position is in El Segundo, California

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or another related field
  • A minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience, either in the workforce or in pursuit of an advanced degree
  • Experience with implementation of electro-optical hardware  
  • Experience using common processing languages such as MATLAB, IDL, C/C++, or Python to analyze data and implement solutions to problems in remote sensing
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have or be able to obtain a clearance from the US Government (US citizenship required)

 

Required for consideration as a Senior Member of Technical Staff:

  • A minimum of 4 - 5 years of experience (either in the workforce or in pursuit of an advanced degree) in optical engineering
  • Must be able to work across organizations and with outside customers to complete technical assignments
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or another related field
  • Demonstrated experience in the successful implementation of electro-optical hardware  
  • Strength in using common processing languages such as MATLAB, IDL, C/C++, or Python to analyze data and implement solutions to problems in remote sensing
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have or be able to obtain a clearance from the US Government (US citizenship required)

 

Preferred

  • An advanced degree in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or another related field
  • Experience leading small technical teams
  • Active DoD Security Clearance with Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
