Responsibilities

The Systems and Operations Assurance Department (SOAD) is the source of expertise in Operations and Facilities Engineering, Product and Process Assurance, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to our corporate customers. SOAD offers a diverse range of capabilities that enable and support the effective implementation of technical and programmatic mission assurance activities on satellite manufacturing/processing, launch, and the associated ground systems. We have a current need for a facilities/infrastructure electrical power engineer to provide technical leadership and expertise for the design, development and operations associated with ground systems electrical facilities and infrastructure, especially in the areas of power generation, transmission, distribution, protection, controls, grounding, lighting, and lightning protection systems.

 

 

Key Functions for Engineering Specialist 

  • Provide technical expertise in identifying innovative technologies and operational enhancements to improve the design, safety, resiliency/reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Develop and/or implement advanced analytical techniques to evaluate facility systems and optimize overall electrical systems design
  • Coordinate technical assignments, work independently and on teams, and provide advice to management and customers
  • Develop and evaluate design criteria, concepts and design packages, supporting construction and/or commissioning operations; develop test plans, interface control documents and test procedures
  • Investigate equipment failures and diagnose faulty operation; provide recommendations to the customer
  • Provide detailed technical reports for customers and program office to assess subsystem performance and modification or upgrade requirements

 

 

Key Functions for Sr. Engineering Specialist 

  • Leads projects teams and junior staff
  • Independently conducts longer range technical studies and reports findings on new technical advances
  • Mentor early career engineers/members of the technical staff

 

 

This position is available as an Engineering Specialist or Sr. Engineering Specialist 

Qualifications

 

Required for Engineering Specialist 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited school
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the design and operation of facility electrical/power systems and controls, preferably in an Architect-Engineer (A&E) firm or utility company
  • Professional engineer (PE) license
  • Knowledge of current building codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, NFPA, IBC)
  • Expertise in power distribution systems modeling and analysis tools (e.g., SKM Power*Tools® eTAP®)
  • Familiar with AutoCAD and/or analogous computer-aided drafting programs
  • Ability to work independently and on teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with developing project requirements and performing electrical calculations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a TS/SCI clearance. US citizenship is required

 

 

Requirements for Sr. Engineering Specialist 

  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in the design and operation of facility electrical/power systems and controls, preferably in an Architect-Engineer (A&E) firm or utility company
  • Project management experience and ability to lead project teams
  • Project cost estimation experience
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a TS/SCI clearance. US citizenship is required

 

 

Preferred for Engineering Specialist and Sr. Engineering Specialist 

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Current and active TS/SCI clearance 
  • Experience with high power/utility infrastructure engineering
  • Experience with high-density data center design and operations
  • Experience with launch base infrastructure and facilities
  • Familiar with facility/infrastructure control and supervisory systems (e.g., SCADA, DCS)
  • Familiar with programmable logic controllers and communications infrastructure (PLCs)
