Responsibilities

Aerospace is seeking a Director of Application Development to lead custom business application development in its Information Technology group. The selected candidate will manage a department of approximately 15 staff including 2 section managers. The department is responsible for development and maintenance of several dozen applications that implement and support Aerospace business processes. These applications are primarily Web applications built in a variety of different technologies including Java, PHP, Angular, and React, which interface with other Aerospace-developed and off-the-shelf systems. Development is performed by a collaborating set of Agile Scrum teams supported by a maturing set of DevOps technologies and techniques.

 

Key Functions

  • Provide oversight and direction to department staff and managers, including goal setting, performance management, and career development and coaching.
  • Work with other IT departments to establish and maintain a roadmap for custom application development and DevOps, integrated with development efforts occurring outside the department that are focused on off-the-shelf platforms and software applications.
  • Make strategic and tactical decisions on the design, development, implementation, testing, and deployment of business applications, ensuring functionality, usability, and security.
  • Remain abreast of relevant technological developments and work with staff to innovate while maintaining a sustainable set of applications.
  • Implement and mature agile development processes within the group, and provide leadership in agile practices to the rest of the corporation.
  • Manage department resources, including labor, capital, and overhead budget.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management, peers, staff, and customers both inside and outside the corporation.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8 or more years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. .
  • Strong technical background in software engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience over a portfolio of successful, technologically complex projects, particularly in software engineering.
  • Experience with DevOps techniques and technologies.
  • This role will require the ability to obtain a secret clearance which is issued by the US government and a US citizenship is required.

 

Preferred 

  • Management experience, particularly in software or systems development
  • Advanced degrees in relevant disciplines 
  • Fluency in agile methods, particularly Scrum, with direct experience participating in or leading agile teams. Relevant certifications
  • Strong skills in team-building, oral and written communication.
