Responsibilities

Are you looking for a fun, innovative, challenging, and meaningful experience where you can contribute directly to important projects in support of national security as well as participate in research opportunities?  If so, come visit the Digital Communication Implementation Department at The Aerospace Corporation and join us in our role as a trusted partner for US government, civil, and commercial customers.  Along with our traditional roles of providing unbiased support in embedded communications, reconfigurable hardware transceivers, wireless communication and navigation systems, and software-defined radios, we are recognized experts in applying our machine learning expertise to attack the most difficult problems in digital communication systems.

 

Key Functions

  • Establish the organization's objectives and goals, and communicate them to subordinates, management, and customers.
  • Coordinate with higher management to determine and support the organization’s structure, staff, and resource needs.
  • Propose and staff new and on-going projects and resolve resource contentions and task prioritization.
  • Seek and identify opportunities for expanded and new business and assist higher management in the evaluation and pursuit of new opportunities.
  • Promote and market the organization's capabilities to customers.  Engage with customers in identifying areas to support and develop statements of work and statements of expectations.
  • Participate in budget planning and allocation of resources.
  • Implement corporate policies, practices, and operating processes; and recommend improvements to higher management.
  • Hire workforce to meet customer demands and organizational goals.
  • Report organization’s activities, progress, and achievements through written and oral reports to management, subordinates, and customers.
  • Cooperate and communicate frequently with customers and higher management to coordinate and report work expectations, progress, issues, and results.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews and recommend performance improvement, career development, salary and promotion actions.
  • Monitor and directs the organization’s security processes, compliance, and safety awareness.
  • Maintain and improve organization’s laboratories to enhance testing and design capabilities.
Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or another field relevant to DCID's line of work including Digital Signal Processing, Wireless Communications, and/or Embedded Systems
  • Strong technical leadership skills and prior management experience
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in digital communication systems
  • Successful track record of leading and building teams
  • Experience in new business generation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with corporate, customer, and contractor management and staff
  • Demonstrated effective mentorship, career development, and interpersonal skills toward subordinates
  • Active Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance. (US Citizenship required)
  • Ability to travel as needed

 

Preferred

  • Aerospace line management experience
  • Successful project management experience
  • Prior hands-on laboratory experience pertaining to digital receiver design, testing, or characterization
  • Working knowledge with one or more of the following: C/C++, Python, Java, MATLAB, VHDL, Verilog
  • Experience in writing and leading research activities such as Independent Research and Development (IRAD) efforts
  • Experience with Air Force and NRO satellite programs
