The Aerospace Corporation’s Communication Architectures Department performs trade studies, analyses, and simulations to optimize the overall communications performance of terrestrial, satellite, launch vehicle, and ground based systems. We are seeking a Digital Communications Engineer that can work build digital communication prototypes both satellite and terrestrial applications. Our multidisciplinary staff defines the architectures to ensure cutting edge, state of the art high performance communications and coordinates the activities of related engineering specialties to ensure mission objectives are achieved.


Key Functions

  • Provide expertise in digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms in both hardware and software
  • Provide technical analysis and develop simulation tools to assess communication system performance
  • Develop and test prototypes of communication and signal processing systems in the laboratory and in the field
  • Conduct specialized studies in modern communication techniques and algorithm designs
  • Provide communications expertise including assessment of payloads, terminals and satellite enterprise systems
  • Assess the performance of satellite and ground systems, communications links, and wireless networks
  • Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers


This position can be filled as an Aerospace Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist



  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or another related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance (US Citizenship required)
  • Familiarity with software defined radio implementation
  • Experience in digital signal processing and communications
  • Strong software development skills in languages such as C++ and Python



  • Master's Degree or PhD in engineering or another related field
  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance
  • Strong background in digital signal processing and communications
  • Hands-on experience in GNU Radio software defined radio development
  • Experience with real-time system development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


Requirements for Engineering Specialist


  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance
  • Extensive experience in digital communications prototyping
  • Strong experience in software development for complex simulations or real-time signal processing systems
  • Strong analysis, problem-solving and communications tool development skills both independently and in a team setting
  • Strong presentation skills in briefings and technical reports
  • Excellent organizational, as well as written and oral, communication skills



  • PhD in electrical engineering or related field
  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance
  • Experience with space systems and satellite communication
  • Knowledge of Air Force or NRO programs as well as commercial satellite systems
  • Extensive knowledge, experience and understanding of digital communications prototyping and digital processing techniques
  • Experience with protected communications including anti-jam, frequency hopping techniques
  • Extensive and proven experience in hardware and software implementation
  • Able to learn and apply new concepts that go beyond communications engineering
