Responsibilities

The Control Analysis Department performs satellite control system analysis for a wide range of programs. Work includes attitude and payload control, applications of estimation and filtering, and advanced vehicle dynamics. Tasks performed by section staff may include concept development, trade studies, source selections, requirements analyses, risk assessments, design analyses, simulation development, test planning and participation, operations support, and anomaly resolution. In addition to performing technical analyses as both an individual contributor as well as a team member or team leader, the Section Manager will provide technical and strategic direction and coordination for activities of subordinate staff. 

 

Key Functions

  • Leads and supervises section staff
  • Works closely with contractors and program offices to evaluate and develop appropriate tools and techniques; develops technical objectives with program offices and customers
  • Provides task planning, schedule, and labor estimates for proposed technical work assignments
  • Works closely with customers to coordinate tasking, report progress, resolve technical issues, and assure project success
  • Prepares written and oral reports of organization’s activities, issues, and accomplishments to higher management, subordinates, and teaming organizations
  • Recommends staffing needs, reassignments, transfers, and terminations
  • Conducts performance reviews, recommends performance improvements, career development, and promotional actions
  • Identifies opportunities for additional, expanded, and new business. Assists higher management in the evaluation and pursuit of new business opportunities
  • Implements policies, practices, and operating processes and recommends changes and improvements to supervision
  • Responsible for compliance with security monitoring, processes, and recommendations

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or related technical discipline with at least 8 years of technical experience 
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: spacecraft systems engineering, control system design and analysis, estimation theory, or advanced dynamics 
  • Experience delivering technical presentations and writing technical documentation 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in engineering or related technical discipline 
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Team or project leadership experience
  • Experience with one or more of the following: 
    • Spacecraft systems engineering or attitude determination and control
    • Payload pointing estimation and control
    • Advanced control techniques and applications 
    • Kalman filtering and stochastic processes
    • Modeling and simulation of control systems
    • Multibody and flexible body dynamics
    • Implementation, testing, and calibration of control systems
    • Cubesat or smallsat attitude determination and control design and operations
