The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Computer Aided Engineering Undergraduate Intern for an internship opportunity. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.


The qualified candidate will become part of the Computer Aided Engineering section within the Engineering Applications Department. The Engineering Applications Department (EAD) develops a wide variety of software applications and performs analyses for engineering needs to support civil, commercial, and national security space systems. EAD works with organizations seeking solutions for 3D CAD design/printing, orbit visualization and planning, collision prediction, launch monitoring, anomaly investigation, structural analysis, modeling, simulation, and many other facets of space systems.


  • Work on a team to operate various 3D printer technologies for prototyping, research, and visualization.
  • Participate in research and development for new design techniques and procedures for improving the 3D printing process.
  • Apply the usage of CAD/CAE systems, including SolidWorks, Space Claim, Siemens NX, and other related 3D modeling and analysis software.
  • Work to develop CAD and 3D printed models for engineering prototypes and STEM activities.
  • Work with customers to develop Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Engineering CAD/CAE models for FEA, CFD, structural, and thermal analysis. 
  • Interface with a wide variety of engineering, launch, and satellite program customers. 
  • Training and mentorship will be provided.

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Completion of one or more years of undergraduate coursework in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • A strong interest and coursework in software development or embedded programming
  • Good working knowledge and practical experience using CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • An interest in Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) with the desire to provide valuable improvements to the current design/manufacturing process
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills
  • Interest and/or experience working with hardware
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work successfully in teams
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance
  • US Citizenship required
