As the National Space Security Requirements Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic direction and project leadership for Defensive and Offensive Space Control projects in Colorado Springs, CO.  The candidate will identify, assess and recommend solutions, system-of-systems approaches and conduct systems engineering in the development of project requirements and supporting doctrine, operations, training, materiel, leadership, personnel, facilities, and policy required to transition projects to operations.  


Key Functions

  • Duties include conducting analysis of architecture components, allocating functions to architecture artifacts, developing system and operating concepts, and integrated systems requirements derived from analysis of enterprise-level architectures. 
  • The selected candidate will be expected to interact with Aerospace’s Engineering and Technology Group (ETG), other program office staff, and a wide variety of Department of Defense (DOD) organizations including HQ AFSPC, SMC, JFCC SPACE and its Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC) and National Space Defense Center (NSDC) personnel, SAF/SP, SSDP, US Strategic Command, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and sister services. 
  • The candidate will also be expected to interface with the Intelligence Community and other government organizations as required.
  • This is a dual level requisition which can be filled as a Project Engineer/Sr. Project Engineer.


  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution with 8 (PE) or more years/ 12 (Sr. PE) or more years of relevant engineering/technical experience for development national security space systems requirements.  
  • A strong technical and operational background in space operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and recommend future space capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with JCIDS.
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics, flight dynamics, and space system development, launch, on-orbit checkout and transition to operations.
  • Experience with systems engineering, requirements development, system acquisition and test.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing strategic advice and counsel to senior customers.
  • Understanding of various threat phenomenologies to include non-kinetic, electronic warfare, directed energy and kinetic
  • Candidate must have excellent interpersonal communication and briefing skills along with demonstrated ability to work independently and interact effectively with high-level government, Aerospace, and contractor personnel.
  • This position requires a current TS/SCI clearance and the ability to obtain SAP/SAR clearances. 
  • The flexibility to travel, support and engage with geographically-dispersed stakeholders is desired.



  • Technical degree
  • Acquisition experience with some exposure to rapid acquisition
  • Experience in tactics, techniques and procedure development.
  • Experience with the JMEM process.
  • Knowledge of non-space OSC/DSC capabilities and architectural components
  • Space and military adaptive planning and execution processes, exercise support and operational experiments
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify technical and programmatic risks, strategically plan for their mitigation, and lead teams to successful resolution
  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and interact effectively with the Air Force, SETAs, other FFRDCs, and contractor personnel
  • Familiarity with the SSDP activities
  • Possess clear oral and written communication acumen, as well as strong interpersonal relationship skills
