The National Geospatial Programs subdivision is seeking to fill a full time position for a Sr. Remote Sensing Scientist to provide analysis and develop software architectures and implementations to deliver modeling, simulation, and exploitation solutions for the National Geospatial and Intelligence Agency. This person will work in a cross-functional team and as an independent contributor to apply these methods to enable mission success. 



  • Delivering independent and objective advice on NGA support and integration into various Intelligence Community agencies.
  • Assisting and advising the development of systems engineering expertise, analytic capability development, and geospatial intelligence budget planning and programming
  • Analyze performance, accuracy, and utility of EO remote sensing systems, components, and approaches
  • Prototype algorithms, models, and simulations in a relevant programming language (Python, Matlab or IDL)
  • Investigate existing and pursue unique data exploitation methods and automation techniques (e.g., machine vision, spatial-spectral filtering, tracking, behavior modeling, spectral material classification)
  • Assess accuracy, performance, and utility of proposed algorithms (e.g., numerical errors, accuracy, and precision)
  • Work with other engineers as a team member to solve multi-disciplinary problems
  • Work may involve system level analysis, component performance analysis, requirements development and review 
  • Potential for broad range of problems and need to have willingness to learn and tackle new problems
  • Interface frequently with Government personnel to define, execute, and status projects
  • This position requires local travel in the Washington DC area and occasional domestic travel to meetings, workshops and field collection campaigns



  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics or appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution.



  • 12 or more years of experience
  • Ability to rapidly implement efficient software solutions to image processing problems on either local machines or large scale computing environments
  • Ability to organize, assemble and lead small or large scale teams from ETG and potentially other program offices in response to customer requirements.
  • Ability to travel for customer sponsored field collects that may include work hours outside of a normal 8 hour day and work on the weekends as well.
  • Experience working with NGA and NRO R&D organizations.
  • Professional and technical communication skills such as writing technical documentation, writing status reports, writing algorithm description documents, authoring presentation charts, and presenting to an audience
  • Current TS/SCI
  • This position requires the ability to maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required.



  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics or appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead mixed government, SETA, and FFRDC teams in technical, architecture, strategy, and systems engineering projects and tasks Experience and expertise in geospatial intelligence collection systems, operations, and intelligence analysis
  • Experience with signal and image processing for EO remote sensing systems
  • Interest in developing new algorithms and approaches to unique and emerging phenomenologies.
  • Works well in team based environments but can also execute tasks with little to no supervision.
