With the continued emergence and growth of the new space marketplace, Aerospace and its customers are looking to leverage this opportunity for leveraging small satellites to provide mission utility and diversify architecture options.    The Aerospace Corporation is looking for motivated and talented forward thinking engineers and scientists to join the team developing the next generation ground to enable implementation of these small satellites.  The Small Satellite Ground Engineer will ensure the successful implementation of a small satellite ground architecture in a dynamic and fast-paced development environment.  An innovative, versatile and self-motivated individual will be able to make a big impact in the application of small satellites for future mission needs..  


KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Architecture development and acquisition of a small satellite common ground enterprise in support of a research and development program office.  
  • Work directly with our government customers and their contractors to accomplish development milestones and manage risk.  
  • Leverage and guide Aerospace expertise across other ground development activities (i.e. MMSOC, GMSEC...) to facilitate successful development and implementation of an R&D enterprise solution
  • Develop recommendations for program actions to ensure future R&D small satellites successfully operate end-to-end from mission requests to delivered product

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or computer science  from a recognized institution

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 12+ years of increasing responsible experience in ground system development or related field
  • Experience in supporting the planning and development of ground architectures and/or programs. 
  • Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work closely with senior government management
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly dynamic Program Office environment with a mix of government, FFRDC, and SETA personnel.  
  • Current Top Secret/SSBI/SCI is required.  
  • This position requires the ability to maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An advanced degree in engineering, computer science or related applicable technical discipline
  • Experience with Enterprise solutions that enable modular additions of command and control, mission management and data processing (i.e. NASA GMSEC, USAF MMSOC...)
  • Strong, demonstrated personal initiative
  • Experience leading evaluation of software systems 
  • Demonstrated expertise in scoping, leading and completing projects with a matrixed organization 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems engineering processes, project management, risk management and standards and practices.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS

  • Position requires sitting most of the time at a workstation, using a computer
  • Exposure to general office noise
  • Local travel to off-site meetings and air travel to Aerospace or Customer office locations is required.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office environment.
