Responsibilities

Summary

Directorate V provides on-site support within a government program office in the planning, oversight and execution of Research and Development (R&D) activities involving non-traditional signals intelligence (SIGINT) systems and technologies.  Within this scope, Aerospace provides subject-matter expertise, acquisition, mission assurance, analytic and systems engineering support.  We are looking for a Senior Radio Frequency (RF) Payload Engineer for satellite systems to aid in the development, acquisition and demonstration of SIGINT systems. 

 

Key Functions

  • Provide radio frequency (RF) payload expertise in the areas of signal interception and communications systems
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and technical advice on customer projects involving RF payloads for satellites 
  • Provide expertise in one or more of the following areas: antennas, RF front-ends (including low noise amplifiers, filters, limiters, multiplexers, mixers), and/or analog-to-digital converters
  • Have the technical ability and readiness to study, assess and enhance new and novel approaches to technical challenges in the RF domain
  • Work may involve system level analysis such as signal propagation and receiver system performance
  • Identify customer technical challenges and align technical expertise to address them
  • Work with other government, SETA and Aerospace engineers as a team member to solve technical problems
  • Develop and review RF payload system requirements and monitor execution of acquisition activities
  • Address and investigate a broad range of problems with a willingness to learn and tackle new problems
  • Interface frequently with program office and government personnel as an integrated on-site member of the program office
  • Review and assess data quality and mission performance of cross-mission collections.
  • Coordinate cross-mission requirements, performance and expectations across the applicable NRO Directorates and Program Offices as well as with the user community.
  • Organize and lead technical efforts and project teams while identifying, tasking, and managing appropriate Aerospace Engineering Matrix Support subject matter experts. 
  • Occasional domestic travel will be required (approximately 1 trip per month)

Qualifications

Required

  • Current TS/SCI Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution
  • 12 or more years of professional experience, at least 8 of which involves spacecraft acquisition, signals intelligence systems, or RF spacecraft systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team consisting of customer, contractor, Aerospace and SETA personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of RF systems, preferably in a space application.

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or an appropriate technical discipline
  • Experience working in an R&D environment
  • Working knowledge of NRO acquisition policies and processes
  • Previous experience in one or more NRO program offices
  • Experience in an NRO program office within the SIGINT systems acquisition directorate
