Responsibilities

The Mission Operations Directorate (MOD) delivers, enhances, and assures the operational performance of space, ground and processing systems to satisfy intelligence needs. The Operations Engineering (OE) team manages engineering activities throughout MOD. OE works with acquisition offices and with Systems Engineering Directorate (SED) to represent MOD requirements and equities throughout the acquisition lifecycle. OE also works closely with engineering organizations at the ground stations to conduct system integration. We are seeking a Senior Operations Engineer to perform various systems engineering and integration (SE&I) activities in direct support of MOD/OE, with an emphasis on mission protection.  

 

Key Functions

  • Serve as the Aerospace counterpart to the customer’s lead (“chief architect”) for mission protection
  • Provide technical leadership to the definition, development and implementation of an architecture for mission protection
  • Harmonize existing Concepts of Operation (Conops) and requirements to articulate a coherent enterprise
  • Assist with resource planning to achieve the buildout and operations of required capabilities, to include bridge capabilities
  • Develop briefing materials to explain the architecture and plan to internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with other directorates to address identified gaps and complete requirements development and allocation at multiple levels of the customer’s requirements hierarchy
  • Participate in major design milestones (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR) for programs that will deliver relevant capabilities
  • Support governance updates, as required
  • Identify and analyze operational risks, and the associated mitigation plans
  • As required, prepare reports and briefings, and present recommendations to customers and Aerospace management

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution
  • 12 or more years of relevant experience including at least 5 years of direct experience in systems engineering or in technical roles that support real-time mission operations
  • Occasional travel to contractor and/or government facilities
  • Current TS/SCI clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required


Preferred

  • Direct experience in satellite, ground or communications operations
  • Direct experience with architecture and requirements development
  • Experience in disciplines relevant to mission protection
  • Experience collaborating across customer directorates and offices
  • Experience leading or managing teams
  • Familiarity with the customer organization
