Do you want to join an exciting and challenging team that delivers state of the art systems to the warfighter and National decision makers? Reconnaissance Systems Office is looking for a motivated Senior Payload Lead engineer to lead and direct the Aerospace team in support of a critical space payload early in acquisition cycle. The Reconnaissance Systems Office provides technical support to National Space Systems across the entire spacecraft acquisition and operations cycle.  Within The Reconnaissance Systems Office is The Payload Engineering Division. This division is responsible for overseeing acquisition, development, delivery, and integration of payloads, which includes payload system engineering, payload hardware and software design, development and test, payload sell-off, and development of mission payloads. The Senior Payload Lead will have broad responsibilities and accountabilities to provide leadership, project management, and assembly, planning and direction for the technical support team. 

 

Key Functions

  • Assemble, grow, and maintain a strong team in support of payload engineering oversight for the entire acquisition cycle for a next generation mission payload.
  • Plan and coordinate interdisciplinary activities in system analysis and operations assessment.  
  • Provide programmatic and technical direction to team to identify mission assurance accountabilities and ensure they are met.
  • Lead evaluation of mission payload contactor system engineering, design, analysis, test and sell-off products at multiple levels of integration (component, unit, system).
  • Identify and direct potential innovations and risk reduction activities.  
  • Mentor government customers to help them gain familiarity with applicable payload technologies and Aerospace roles and capabilities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or an appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution
  • A current TS/SSBI
  • Twelve or more years of responsible professional engineering/scientific experience
  • Experience and familiarity with relevant payloads.
  • Prior engineering leadership or managerial experience.
  • Interpersonal and Team Building skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across different levels of customers, contractors and corporate staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to edit technical content for clarity for a particular audience; ability to present clear, concise briefings; ability to write well-crafted reports and assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and lead, as required, corporate matrix support capabilities
  • Function effectively and efficiently with limited supervision
  • Ability to occasionally travel to other Aerospace and vendor, subcontractor, or contractor facilities
  • This position requires the ability to maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. 


Preferred

  • Masters or PhD degree directly applicable to RF payload systems or an advanced degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution
  • Project management skills to include: team-building, budget and resource planning, and mentoring
  • Understanding of and experience working with a matrixed engineering organization.
  • Program Office experience working directly with contractors and government customers.
  • Broad experience in all phases of the space system payload development, from requirements specification through development, manufacturing, testing, verification, and on-orbit operations
  • Initiative and ability to lead change; ability to identify and implement efficiencies, and develop innovative solutions to engineering issues
  • Able to balance technical detail and broader programmatic perspectives
  • Identify and communicate technical and schedule risk
  • Experience working with national security space customers
