Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to help acquire the future Ground Element for a high priority national space system program office.  Make an impact as our team takes on its most extensive software development effort in a decade – without disrupting our ongoing mission, and help us bring new mission capabilities on line. 

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluating contractor software designs to ensure functional and performance requirements are satisfied and external impacts are understood
  • Auditing, reviewing, verification, and validation of software products
  • Identifying and assessing software risks and opportunities
  • Assessing the impacts of proposed software engineering changes, and supporting technical and cost evaluations
  • Formulating software acquisition strategies and participating in pre-acquisition activities
  • Participating in software trade studies and other technical analyses
  • Defining ground system software concepts and capabilities
  • Recommending strategies to migrate ground software functions to common infrastructure, services, and virtual environments

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution
  • Foundation in one or more core technical competencies used in software system development

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 12 years of increasingly responsible experience
  • Experience in acquisition to include experience overseeing the development, integration, verification and validation, and transition to operations of large software based systems    
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills must be demonstrated by the ability to work effectively in a program office environment, form strong SME support teams, and by the formation of a trusted government counterpart relationship.
  • Ability to lead or direct technical teams
  • Occasional to frequent travel within the United States
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; current SSBI. 
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ten or more years of experience developing or acquiring satellite ground software systems
  • Experience in satellite ground subsystems and the ability to resolve technical issues with ground software
  • Experience with agile-based software and test-like-you-fly (TLYF) approaches
  • Understanding of software quality
  • Understanding of cost estimation for software systems and the metrics/analytics used to identify whether software development is on track
  • Experience in satellite control systems such as command & control, mission management, and data management or data processing
  • Knowledge of Cloud computing and/or Amazon Web Services
  • Ability to impact program decisions to preserve or enhance mission and/or lower risk. 
  • Knowledge of NRO systems engineering, acquisition, and integration processes to include the NRO Lifecycle Readiness Instruction and the NRO Site Integration Standards
  • Working knowledge of Aerospace ETG and the Computers and Software Division capabilities and personnel
  • Understanding of signal processing techniques
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office environment.  Position requires sitting most of the time at a workstation using a computer.
  • Exposure to general office noise
  • Occasional to Frequent travel within the United States is required
